Bradley Wiggins wins the Tour of Britain, 2013
Following the high of his 2012 success and his elevation as Britain’s most loved sportsman, 2013 had been somewhat underwhelming for Bradley Wiggins.
His season’s aim was to win the Giro d’Italia, but a crash on stage seven dented his hopes and seemed to impact on his descending skills, and by stage 13 he had retired from the rain-soaked race with a chest infection.
He was then snubbed for the Tour de France and denied the chance of defending the yellow jersey. He’d gone from Sky’s golden boy to its forgotten son.
Wiggins, though, inked a new goal in his calendar: to win the Tour of Britain, the 10th edition in the modern incarnation of the race.
