viewed as the Master of Horror, it isn’t always easy to predict what sort of book Stephen King’s next novel will be. He’s spent most of the last decade bouncing between different subgenres, regularly opting for straight thrillers (including the hard-boiled trilogy that started with 2014’s ); even 2018’s played as a crime thriller/horror hybrid. So it’s a pleasant surprise that his latest release turns out to the most purely book he’s written in years. It’s also a throwback to territory he previously explored in 1980’s , dealing with paranormally-empowered children and a secret organisation out to manipulate them, but filtered through a typically harsh look at the dark side of human nature.
