Author Note
As people, we have often seen promotions designed to deceive us into believing something of little worth is actually of great value. I invite you to consider a way of life we are told makes us look rich or famous in some way, as you read through these short stories two of which are fictional. Whilst the one about The Smoker is based on true life events best of my recollection from a chapter that is out of my own life during years of growing up.
Prologue
Life does not always seem fair despite the plans we make as people for our own futures or the futures of others and how fate delivers a plan of a different when temptations entice the hand of one’s own freewill to become locked into That Habit.
The Drinker
Chapter 1
Tony was never much of a drinker unlike his mate Wayne a loud mouth larking who loved to drink anything as long as it had alcohol inside the glass.
With School graduation behind them Tony and Wayne just wanted to get away from all they were used to living around and decided to make the journey across state from Western Australia to the well-known schoolies event run at Surfers Paradise in Queensland. Before their working life commenced with the oil pipeline rigging crews currently working across South Australia, which was part of their bigger plan in becoming rich with just a few short years of work, some wise investments and a house full of women day and night to spend life parting thereafter.
Certainly, sounded like a great plan expect for one small detail as mentioned Wayne loved to drink anything alcoholic in nature. And that is where everything changed. December 4th Tony and Wayne have arrived at Perth airport for a short few hours flight across Australia to Queensland. The day held blue sky and a gentle breeze. Making it almost perfect to be young and alive. Even if the plane did smell of stale smoke and perfume from the passengers of the last flight. Which did not worry them too much after seeing the extremely attractive stewardesses onboard.
It’s going to be a great summer
Wayne stated.
Be even better if that sexy redhead stewardess wants to come party with us
answer Tony ogling her well-shaped body features.
Oh miss
Wayne spoke as the redhead steward was walking pass. I was wondering if you got anything to drink back there?
You boy’s got any id?
Yes
answered Wayne pulling out an id that belonged to his elder brother who looked almost the same as he did.
What type of drink were you after? Sir
.
A rum and coke for me plus a tequila sunrise for my friend with …. You?
hinted Wayne.
Fresh
she replied.
Yes please
retorted Wayne without missing a heartbeat. As the hostess stood there raise an eyebrow and walked off to get the drinks. Tony sitting in the aisle seat turned around taking in the full view of her sassy walk until she stopped to speak with another passenger and glanced down the aisle catching Tony red faced.
She saw me
"Relax will ya. Just tell thanks and here’s to a magic
