Beyond the Far Lands
Once upon a time, far away, in the far away kingdom, in a small town named Gelendzhik, Grandfather Minai and Grandmother Anna lived on the Black Sea coast. They had a granddaughter Alenushka. They lived in a small hut with a huge garden around it. Behind the house was a big meadow, where children enjoyed playing. In the distance, the dark forest and the mountains of the Caucasus had already begun beyond that meadow.
Alenushka’s young mother was a golden-haired beauty with the name Emma. But her beautiful, blue eyes were always sad. Once she was bewitched by the evil Demon, Greek Constantine. He became the father of Alenushka, but soon after that he disappeared forever. Young Emma, who dreamed of happiness, could not console herself in the house of her stern father Minai. She had to leave her one-year-old daughter Alenushka to be raised by her kind mother Anna. Emma was forced to leave for Sakhalin Island to earn money. Sakhalin Island was at the other end of Russia. Emma very seldom could come to see her daughter in Gelendzhik.
When mother Emma visited Gelendzik, she sometimes took Alenushka to the town with her. For such event, she would put the girl in a low, dark blue stroller. But she always lifted the top so that the wind did not blow on the child. However, Alenushka did not like to sit in the closed space of the old stroller. She wanted to see what was going on around, and not just lie down, like a doll. From the distressing feeling, Alenushka was weeping in the closed stroller. Her mother shouted at her and walked on.
Although Grandmother was a very caring and loving woman, the girl was very homesick for her parents. But time, as they say, heals everything, and gradually Alenushka forgot about them.

Punishments
Alenushka grew up as a very inquisitive girl, and loved to ask everyone a lot of questions. Adults shrugged her off like an annoying fly. And among themselves, they often whispered about her or about something important, which concerned her fate. Alenushka did not abide any secrets around her, and wanted to find out everything.
