INTRODUCTION
Social media has penetrated interpersonal and professional communication to become an essential and unavoidable part of being a successful leader in any field.
This change can be seen most prominently by younger generations who have grown up in a digital environment and rely on social media as a primary form of communication.
With advances in technology it is almost impossible to be anonymous online. Artificial intelligence is the emerging technology being used to update digital databases and record new information in real time.
As a successful professional you know, how important it is to be proactive, set your own agenda, including driving the way your colleagues and other professionals see you.
Previously, establishing your reputation, included relying on word of mouth, referrals, and traditional advertising. All of this allowed the provider to retain autonomy of their level of visibility and the content portrayed.
Now, social media platforms have reduced the barriers to entry allowing anybody to post their opinions, reviews, and thoughts online. All the while receiving attention from a global audience.
Potentially, even using your name and quotes from your existing media to make sweeping statements that may not align with your brand. This invites concerns over ethics, professional reputation, and credibility. Raising the question of how to navigate the new world and retain control over how your name or brand is used.
As a professional navigating the increasingly complex world of social media, concerns have arisen regarding questions of ethics and professionalism, online identity and how the use of social media fits within the social contract between
