    As we continue to progress heavenward in the spirit realm, we are catapulted from the realm of the presence into the miraculous arena and from the miraculous domain into the Glory realm. The presence represents a radiation or refection of God’s glory. It is the manifest touch that comes when the glory of God is radiated in a particular place. The presence is not the glory but the radiation or refection of that glory. It is a signal that God is in the house.

    CHAPTER ONE

    THE ANOINTING, THE MANTLE AND THE GLORY

    The Anointing, the Mantle, the Presence and the Glory

    It is a typical scenario across many Christian cycles that multitudes of believers usually misconstrue various aspects of manifestations of God’s power. Such lack of revelation is what limits many from attaining greater heights of God’s power. Elijah’s divine encounter with God on mount Horeb is a clear portrait of the difference between the anointing, the mantle, the presence and the glory, which are diverse manifestations or aspects of God’s power. The Bible records in 1 Kings 19:11 that,

    Behold, the Lord passed by and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke into pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake, after the earthquake a fire but the Lord was not in the fire.

      One striking characteristic feature about this occurrence is that these were usual or common manifestations of God’s power, but God was not in any of them. He had manifested in these ways before, for example, He was in the cloud when He led the Children of Israel out of Egypt, He was in the fire when He descended upon Mount Sinai and set the whole mountain ablaze and He was also in the fire when Elijah faced the prophets of Baal and then called on God and He rained fire from Heaven and consumed the evening sacrifice but this time, He was not in any of these manifestations.  Instead, He chose to manifest Himself in the form of a small, still voice. Elijah had become so used to the presence of God but now God was introducing a completely different perspective of Himself.

      This implies that there is a clear-cut difference between the power, the anointing, the presence and the glory of God. As revealed in the above-mentioned scripture, these were aspects of manifestations of God’s power, but they did not represent the nature and character of God. This is because manifestations are what He does but not who He is. What He does is Jehovah Elohim but Jehovah Yaweh is who He is. Elijah had a revelation of God as Elohim; He had seen him moving mountains, raising the dead, releasing fire from Heaven, opening and closing Heaven and while Elijah still hold on to that revelation, God had moved on and was revealing a completely new dimension of His being. This revelation clearly portrays that the power, anointing, presence and glory are completely different aspects of God’s power altogether. For clarity of purpose, each of these manifestations are explained in detail in the passages below:

    The Realms Of Manifestation Of God’s Power

    The word, power is derived from the Greek Word, dynamis, meaning a strong ability to do or carry out a particular task. It is the explosive, dynamic or inherent power or ability to perform miracles. In essence, it is the dynamic ability, dominion, strength and energy or competence to cause changes. In the context of this revelation, it refers to what believers can do in God in terms of manifestation of miracles, signs and wonders. Power is a tangible end product of a manifestation that results when a miracle is being performed or when the supernatural realm contacts the physical realm. It is a supernatural manifestation that comes from God’s presence.

    Power is the divine ability to effect change or make changes to a particular situation or circumstance.

    Power is manifested through healing, deliverance, raising the dead, control over nature or situations and circumstances and so forth. In Elijah’s case of encounter with God on Mount Horeb as illustrated in our opening scripture above, when mountains shook and quaked and fire and wind prevailed, this was a manifestation of His power, but His presence was not there. This implies that Healing, deliverance, miracles, signs and wonders are a manifestation of His power but not necessarily His presence because these can take place even when His presence is not there.

      Therefore, there are different aspects of manifestation of God’s power. For example, the aspect of power manifested in the realm of finances is called wealth, the aspect of power displayed in the realm of spiritual warfare is called might, the aspect of power manifested in the area of service or ministry is called the anointing, and aspect of power exhibited in the realm of territorial governance is called dominion and this is the highest level of power that was initially given to Adam.

    The Mantle And The Anointing

    The Hebrew word for mantle is ‘addereth which refers to a cloak, glory, splendour and magnificence. The mantle was a cloak made of fur or fine material prophet’s garment ( 1 Kings 19:13;1 Kings 19:19; 1 Kings 2:8 1 Kings 2:13) This is the one worn by Elijah.The other Hebrew word for mantle is me’il, frequently applied to the robe of the ephod (Exodus 28:4 Exodus 28:31 ; Leviticus 8:7), which was a splendid under tunic wholly of blue, reaching to below the knees. It was woven without seam, and was put on by being drawn over the head. It was worn not only by priests but by kings (1 Samuel 24:4), prophets (15:27), and rich men (Job 1:20 ; 2:12). This was the little coat" which Samuel’s mother brought to him from year to year to Shiloh (1 Samuel 2:19), a miniature of the official priestly robe. The main difference from one mantle to the other is that one was made out of animal hair (it was hairy) and the other was linen. Based on these definitions we see that the mantle is a symbol of authority and position. With the mantle comes a greater degree of Power, Position, and Authority. You have an anointing to do something but someone else is wearing the mantle. That’s why you are reading this. You can actually function and operate in an anointing and not have a mantle. 

    Spiritual Laws For Mantles And Anointing

    The following are spiritual laws that govern the use of Mantles and Anointings:

    The mantle is a protective covering that shields you from any harm, calamity or disaster.  The one upon whom rests the anointing cannot be touched. When Aaron and Miriam, complained and criticized Moses for his interracial marriage only Miriam was cursed with leprosy. Why is that? I believe that while Miriam was anointed (she was a prophetess) she didn’t have a mantle. However, Aaron on the other hand was the Chief Priest. God did not curse the mantle of Chief Priest. Aaron was punished later by not being allowed to enter into the promise land (Numbers 20:22-29). His mantle was transferred to Eleazar and he died after that.

    The same principle was at work when Moses struck the rock twice instead of speaking to it (Numbers 20:7-12). God still honored what he did even though he was walking in disobedience. Why is that? For the same reason, his mantle. He has to pass the mantle to Joshua before God will publicly deal with him. This goes to show that the one who carries the mantle cannot die. That is why God rebuked the kings saying touch not my anointed one, do my prophets no harm. In 1 Samuel 15 we see that the Lord took King Saul’s anointing and gave it to David in 1 Samuel 16. So the entire time until David became King, Saul was acting under the mantle with no anointing. However a pastor can have church for years, with a growing congregation and zero anointing. They are operating under the authority of the mantle and not the anointing. So, the take away is this, when you have an anointing it can come and go. With the mantle it is in position of authority and you can operate with no anointing. We should have both. And we should obey God’s spiritual laws that are in place by not cursing the person wearing the mantle or we will call judgement upon ourselves as we read before in Romans 13:1-7.

    Your Journey From Anointing To Mantle

    I believe every single one of us was born to wear some level of anointing and mantle.  All of us.  God is no respecter of persons, so we all have a purpose and a position in life.  Even the unsaved, as we see with King Cyrus.  What we do from the anointing to the mantle is important. You are on a journey and in a process that cannot be rushed. You need to position yourself to receive that mantle. You need to respect the people in authority who have the mantle. You need to honor them. You need to serve under them once you realize they have the mantle that you are destined to wear. Learn all that you can from them as you are serving. Wait for your turn because it is coming.

    The Progression And Levels Of Your Mantle

    Mantles and Anointings have a progression.  They have different levels. I’ve been using the word Mantle as an ultimate position so far, but I want you to think about it as something that is progressive so that you will be able to determine where you are in your own process. Let’s use Joseph as an example, the first mantle was the coat of many colors from his father.  His brothers took it when they sold him into slavery (Genesis 37:23).  Does this mean that they stole it from him? No.  You can’t steal someone’s mantle.  I think God put that there for us to see his progression which means he moved from one position to another, one level to another. Then he got a second mantle when he became the chief in Potiphar’s household. In Genesis 39:15-16, we see that when Potiphar’s wife accused him of rape, he left that mantle and ran.  Again, he changed his mantle!
