    Introduction

The Samsung Galaxy S20 is the Android centerpiece for people who prefer smaller smartphones. The S20 is simple to use with one hand owing to its 6.2-inch display, and yet this lightweight gadget delivers quite a punch.

Like its bigger siblings, the Galaxy S20 provides you with a smooth 120Hz display, revolutionary new camera system with increased 5G speeds, and zoom.

    Design Review

The Samsung Galaxy S20 doesn't look markedly different from the Galaxy S10, but some refinings are welcome. This time around, the outline for the front camera is smaller and positioned in the upper center of the display rather than on the right side, so it's less of a distraction. Moreover, the display isn't that curved, which I appreciate as there is little chance of unintentional touches when you move the phone in your hands.

At this stage, I feel it's not a serious thing, but it's noticeable that the Samsung Galaxy S20 doesn't come with a headphone jack, which is the first Galaxy S premium phone without this feature.

The color options of the Samsung Galaxy S20 are not impressive, but there is at least some variety. The Galaxy S20 comes in three colors: cloud pink, cloud blue, and cosmic gray. I'm biased towards the lighter Cloud Blue because it feels and looks new.

    Camera Review

The Galaxy S20 aims to stand out from the competition with bigger sensors, a wider zoom, and advanced features, thus making shooting and sharing easier.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 comes with a triple rear camera equipped with a 12MP wide-angle sensor of 1.8 microns. The telephoto lens uses a 0.8 micron sensor of 64MP, and the ultra-wide 12MP camera uses a 1.4 micron sensor.

Why do I emphasize on these numbers? Well, the bigger the sensor, the more light it allows in to produce brighter and clearer images. By contrast, the ultra-wide cameras, wide-angle, and telephoto of the Galaxy S10 were 1, 1.4, and 1 microns accordingly. At least for the S20, two of the lenses are considerably bigger.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 has a sharper zoom than the Galaxy S10. The Hybrid Optic Zoom increases to a maximum of 3x, which should be a lossless zoom and the digital zoom increases to a maximum of 30x. As you reach 30x, the camera view becomes shaky, but all in all, this is an improvement on the Galaxy S10's 2x zoom.

What about Night Mode? The Galaxy S20 did an excellent job capturing the landscape in nearly total darkness.

My favorite aspect of the Samsung Galaxy S20 camera is Single Take. In this mode, when you click the shutter button, the phone will take a set of photos while also capturing 10 seconds of video. The phone will then provide you with a folder of results, such as a Live Focus (portrait mode) photo, an AI (artificial intelligence) Best Moment, ultra-wide shot, including a fast forward video that is perfect for social media and the original video.

On the video aspect, the Galaxy S20 is a beast, as it can capture 8K video up to 24 frames per second. You can also cast videos to Samsung 8K QLED flat screens - if you can buy one, and capture 33MP photos from 8K videos that you may want to share.

The front camera of the Samsung Galaxy S20 features a 10MP sensor that uses 1.22 micron and an f/2.2 aperture. It's the exact resolution and size as the front camera of the S10, but that camera had an aperture of f/1.9.

I took a photo of myself with the front camera, and my face appeared a little too polished, but it did an excellent job catching the dots on my top and hair.

    Display Review

Even though a fast processor helps, the display's refresh rate can make a phone feel smoother in daily operation, whether you're navigating through websites or playing games. The 6.2-inch OLED display of the Samsung Galaxy S20 has a refresh rate of 120Hz, which is times two of the 60Hz rate on the Galaxy S10.

Another bonus? The Samsung Galaxy S20 features a new 240Hz touch sensor, which should be more receptive. In my testing, the 120Hz mode was fast when I used the Chrome app and the Twitter app.

While using the phone during a hands-on time, the Galaxy S20 felt incredibly fluid, and you can easily switch from 60Hz to 120Hz in the display settings menu. The sad news is that choosing 120Hz dials down the resolution from quad HD to full HD.

The Galaxy S20 has one of the most brightly colored displays ever seen. The OLED display had a very high average brightness of 857 nits, which is much brighter than the radiating 752-nit iPhone 11 Pro.
