Clutching my stomach, I curled into a ball and collapsed onto the bed.
It was September 2003 and I’d had excruciating pains for days.
I hoped it’d subside, that I’d soon be back at work as a primary-school teacher.
But a doctor referred me to hospital. And, there, tests showed I had appendicitis.
I needed an emergency op that night.
