- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A satisfying first introduction to Flash for me. I found the characters interesting and dynamic and I am interested in reading more Flash comics.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Fantastic art work. Story was a little disconnected.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Flash has the best super-power, and he's a good guy. Easily the best super-hero ever.
Fun read. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It started out really slow but the last couple of issues picked up. Still, it took me a long time to get through the whole volume. Hoping the next one is better.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked this one, but it wasn't what I was expecting. Since this was part of the "New 52" reboot of the DC Universe, I was expecting a rehashed origin story of Barry Allen/The Flash. Instead, it starts a relatively short time later (months? year?, not sure...), introducing several supporting characters and new/old antagonists like Mob Rule, Captain Cold, and a super-fast glimpse of Gorilla Grodd, which is likely a lead-in to the next story arc.
The artwork is very good, and it's interesting how they capture his high-speed movement, which can't be easy on the a "printed" page. (Note to DC: create a truly interactive format for certain characters that somehow showcase movement). I really liked a couple of the variant covers included, but most left me wondering how they were ever included; they were simply terrible. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Welcome back Barry Allen and in a big (and I assume pretty permanent now) way. I've always been a Wally West as the Flash sort of person. Not for any big philosophical reason, it's just that I grew up with West not Allen. Still, I think Barry as the Flash is growing on me.In these first issues of his reboot we get to see him go against Captain Cold, a guy who can clone more copies of himself by cutting off body parts (and then the parts on the original heal again), and we even see Grodd at the end, and very ominously. It's a lot of plot lines to juggle, and there's also a massive blackout of both Keystone City and Central City, but, he is the Flash so him juggling more than one crisis in his title shouldn't be surprising. And then there's Iris West. I get why they're doing what they're doing, and the character of Barry's fellow crime lab girlfriend Patty is a cool character, but, I don't have to like it.I was also surprised by how much I liked the art. Usually I either am ok but not wow'd by the art or don't like it, but I really thought the art in these issues were actually really great!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Initially confusing but I think I finally got over that. The art in this rivals some of the best in any of New 52 comics, and I really dug it for that reason alone. Not much of a Flash fan, but when I saw this art holding its own against something like New 52 Batwoman, I was a fan in a Flash. Must read for any comic fan, New 52 continues to impress.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Newly revived & revamped Flash back from the dead and just not grabbing my attention.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was so looking forward to this one. Flash is one of my favourite Justice League members. I like his humour and light-heartedness especially. Boy, was I disappointed. Flash here is so serious and there was virtually no humour. For the plot, it was pretty boring for the most part delving into ... sheesh, I read this yesterday and am having a hard time even remembering most of it today. So, the plot delves into how his speed works and whether his brain is as fast as his body. The Mob Rule as bad guys was pretty lame but there is a second storyline that comes into play partway through that perked my interest. Captain Cold shows up and references to certain other Rogue members are made. Yeah! Then a very interesting background story is introduced about Gorilla Grodd. While I didn't like (and can hardly remember) the first part, the second part makes me want to keep going with the series and we'll just have to see how it develops. BTW, this is fantastic art by Manapul which helped me get through the boring parts.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5As a part of the New 52, the Flash is receiving some long needed attention. Rather than start where the Flash left off, we are introduced to Barry Allen, the original Flash. Longtime fans of the series may find this disappointing as Wally West, the Flash as seen in the cartoon television shows, is considered to be the favorite Flash in the series. In terms of the plot, this is not an origin story. Those who are looking to get into the Flash will find a hard time understanding what is going on. Villains are introduced suddenly with little explanation as to who they are. Barry Allen himself has little personality other than his speed and sense of justice. The narrative is also somewhat wonky as the story is sometimes told asynchronous which can leave first time comic book readers confused. All in all, there is potential in this graphic novel series as the art is top notch and at least Mob Rule, a villain(s), was interesting enough.
