Introduction to public speaking
Can you think of any memorable speech or presentation you have ever attended? It is sad to know that most presentations are easy to forget, especially when the main reason behind the presentation was to communicate something.
But if you remember these four basic things, then be sure that your verbal messages will be understood and remembered for a long time. Although these things may sound somewhat obvious and seemingly simple, they are of immense importance.
You must understand the purpose of your presentation.
Do not confuse things; keep your message clear and accurate.
Be well prepared to face the audience and their questions.
Don't be monotonous; instead being lived at the same time as the speech.
Always be clear about the idea that you do what you want to achieve. It is very essential for you to know and understand, before you start working on your presentation or speech, what you want to say, what you want to do to approach your audience, and why it is important for them to listen. Asking yourself basic questions like who you want to talk to, what are their interests, beliefs and principles, what is common between them and others and how they differ.
What is the message you want to convey to your audience? You can answer this question by asking yourself about success criteria. '' How will you know if and when the message has been successfully communicated?
What is the best way to get your message across? Here nonverbal cues such as their expressions and body language play a vital role along with language. However, keep your audience in mind when deciding on your non-verbal words and cues. Plan your presentation from start to finish. If you can add, then prepare audiovisual materials to capture
