    Foreword

The authors are two different people with some things in common. The most important is that they both love Christ. We have no greater duty than to love God. This duty should be seen in us by our actions. Our actions should show God’s love. Getting to the point of bearing fruit is done by studying the Word and increasing your knowledge so your relationship with Christ Jesus can grow.

With the relationship firmly in place, you can turn to bringing others to Christ by your testimony, life style and study of the word. There is no greater thing that you can do for others than invite them to a bible study so they have the opportunity to grow closer to Christ just as you have.

    Preface:  Bearing Fruit

In Mark 4:33-34 we are told that Jesus taught His disciples using parables. By definition a parable is a story with a familiar theme used to convey a spiritual truth. Nathan used a parable to convict King David’s heart in 2Samuel 12. The parable uses something David could identify with, a lamb. A parable is able to convince us of a truth God is trying to convey by making parallels with a concept or idea. Let’s take a look at the parable of the vine in John 15.

"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. These are the words of our Savior from John 15:5. In verse 8 He adds: By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples." In this parable Jesus wants to convey to us that we need to remain in His love through obedience to His commandments, He explains this in verse 10. This passage is often overlooked and will be explained in this book, as it takes much more than a paragraph or two. He also tells us that the will of God for His people, is to bear fruit. There are both positives and negatives here as is with all of the parables. If we remain in Him we will bear fruit, if not we will be cast off, as believers it is possible not to bear any fruit. John the Baptist echoed these words in Luke 3:5 when he instructed those being baptized to bring forth fruits worthy of repentance. In other words show that you have changed, do something. Jesus is also letting us know that if we don’t bear fruit we are not being His disciples. In Luke 14:26 He tells us that a disciple must deny himself and follow Him.

In the parable of the sower we are given the same message and we are told that some will bear more fruit than others. It is the endeavor of this book to start to make disciples of His people and to instruct them how to bear much fruit. I think if you ask anyone, they will say they want to be the ones who bear 100 times what is sown, as it says in Matthew 13:23. It is our hope to get the people of God pointed in that direction. Of course, it is up to us all to do something with what we are given.

Now, the fruit that we speak of is the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5:22-23, and we are told to walk in them. Again, it is our choice to walk in them and do something with them. This is why some people will bear more and some less and some none at all. Something that should be pointed out is that fruit and good works are closely linked together. If God makes kindness in us, and we never use that kindness for anybody it is like a nice juicy apple falling from the tree and rotting on the ground. Motives are also important. God is interested in the reason why we do something
