      The happiness equation. Val scribbled onto a cocktail serviette as Jerome and Stéphane looked on. This had disturbed him from the start.

      It seemed simple enough, but its implications were unending.

      Qu’est-ce que c’est? Jerome began. Trying the only one of a few French phrases his accent was capable of being spot on.

      Something that has been troubling me? Val pointed.

      All right, I will play. Stéphane answered the call.
