      Preface

My sincere prayer is that this book brings deliverance, healing, and restoration to anyone who is struggling with unforgiveness. God will meet you at your point of need.

We must not allow negative situations and negative circumstances keep us bound. I believe that this is one of the most common tactics that Satan uses to keep the body of Christ out of fellowship with the Father. We need to recognize the tactics of Satan and use hurtful situations as opportunities for God to show Himself strong through the believers.

Let me tell you that life is far too precious to allow the enemy to trap you because you are holding on to unforgiveness. I implore you to read this book, forgive, live again, and know that God has healing in His wings.

      Introduction

First, let me begin by letting you know that this is not some overnight or one-two-three step to the newest forgiveness program. It’s certainly not a one day fast, healed the next day, or quick fix. Nor can you log on to FORGIVENESS.COM and download your five-step easy guide to forgive.

This commitment to forgive will require a sincere heart and real quality time in God’s Word. This commitment will involve dying to yourself, fasting, daily prayer time, and lying prostrate before God. To truly forgive requires you to sit in God’s presence, even though you are feeling so unworthy when your heart is not fixed on Him.

As a Sunday school teacher, wife, mother of a busy eight-year-old, and caregiver for an elderly parent (deceased now), life brought me some challenges I thought that I could handle on my own. However, in this book, you will see how I almost allowed unforgiveness to destroy me and pretty much everyone around me. It was only when I realized I couldn’t handle everything in my life that I began to release the pain in my heart to God. As I learned to surrender all to Him, the power of God began to heal me.

This was not an easy task. It took a great deal of time for me to reach this point, and to be quite honest, I’m still growing in this area. Make no mistake; I do not try to present myself as an expert on forgiveness. But I have learned through much adversity how important it is to forgive.

But for God, who is rich in mercy, for that alone, I’m grateful.

For whom the Son makes free, is truly; free indeed.

      —John 8:36

What happens when we forgive ourselves and others?

      CHAPTER 1

      Why Me?

And when you stand praying forgive if ye have an ought against anyone: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses; but if you do not forgive, neither will your Father, which is in heaven, forgive your trespasses.

      —Mark 11:25–26

Is this a familiar passage to you? How many of you understand fully what this scripture is saying? Let me try to expound on the meaning. This scripture says if you are praying to Him, about anything and you have some ought (issues or beef with someone), drop it and let it go. He’s asking you to forgive them (don’t drag it around with you), so He can hear your prayers.

First, let’s find out if this
