Allen Carr

Allen Carr (1934-2006) was a chain-smoker for over 30 years. In 1983, after countless failed attempts to quit, he went from 100 cigarettes a day to zero without suffering withdrawal pangs, without using willpower and without gaining weight. He realised that he had discovered what the world had been waiting for - the Easy Way to Stop Smoking - and embarked on a mission to help cure the world's smokers. Easyway has grown to become a global phenomenon with seminar centres in 150+ cities in more than 50 countries around the world. Allen Carr's Easyway books, online video programmes, and live group seminars have helped an estimated 50 million smokers worldwide. A vast majority of those happy non-smokers became aware of the method as a result of personal recommendation from their friends, family, and colleagues. Allen Carr is now recognised as the world's leading expert on helping smokers to quit and has sold over 16 million books on the topic. His Easyway method has been successfully applied to a host of issues including weight control, alcohol and other addictions and fears. In 2006, Allen was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away that November handing responsibility for Easyway over to his closest and most trusted colleagues.

No More Gambling - Allen Carr

    INTRODUCTION

Gambling is the fastest-growing addiction of the 21st century. This is due largely to the Internet, which has enabled people who previously would have shied away from betting shops and casinos to gamble in the privacy of their own homes. It has become all too easy to log on, enter your bank details and gamble away a fortune, without anybody having the faintest idea you’re doing it. As a result, gambling addiction is no longer a problem affecting predominantly men. Everyone is vulnerable these days.

It’s not just the predatory gambling companies that are culpable but also governments. Relaxation in the gambling laws and in particular the laws governing Internet gambling has opened the door to countless new gambling products. Betting companies have become increasingly imaginative in the new ways they come up with to entice us to gamble and the betting industry has enjoyed a boom. But while an ever-growing number of betting companies are winning big, there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who are losing. And often with devastating effect.

You will be aware of all the harmful effects of gambling, yet there is something more compelling that keeps drawing you back to it. The aim of this book is to remove that force, not through the use of clever tricks or mind games, but by applying a method that has been proven to work time and time again.

Allen Carr’s Easyway method has helped thousands of people to quit smoking, alcohol and other drugs, as well as to stop overeating and going into debt. It works by unravelling the misconceptions that make people believe that they get some benefit from the very thing that’s harming them. This book applies the same method to unravel the misconceptions that make you believe there are good reasons to gamble, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Unlike other methods, it does not require willpower. All you have to do is read the book in its entirety, follow all the instructions and you cannot fail to become a happy non-gambler.

The time to get free has arrived.

    A HARMLESS BIT OF FUN

Everyone gambles, don’t they? The occasional flutter on a big horse race, a lottery, a raffle at the village fête. It’s just a bit of fun, isn’t it? Something to lend a bit of spice to our lives?

It is true that gambling has become part of everyday life, with advertisements for betting firms invading our privacy via television and the Internet on a daily basis. But beneath the veneer of ‘fun’ lies a serious problem that is ruining the lives of millions of people across the world.

    WHY YOU’RE READING THIS BOOK

I can only assume you are reading this book because you want to stop gambling. Like so many other gamblers, you have reached a point where you sense you are not in control – that gambling is controlling you.

Perhaps you take that as a sign of weakness, a lack of willpower – an inability to stop despite having numerous good reasons to do so.

I have good news for you. The reason you have not been able to control your gambling is nothing to do with a lack of willpower and everything to do with an ingenious trap that you and millions like you have walked into.

    That trap is called addiction.

WHAT TYPE OF GAMBLER ARE YOU?

There are so many different ways to gamble available to the general public that, not surprisingly, gamblers come in many shapes and sizes. Some restrict their gambling to the occasional lottery ticket, others gamble daily online. Some prefer the environment of the casino or
