Dog food cookbook and Dog food recipes - Roland Berger
Introduction
What does a good and healthy diet look like for dogs and how does their digestion work? Can healthy food be cooked yourself and what about the treat in between? Can this also be homemade with healthy ingredients? For all these questions you will find answers and advice that will help you. At the end you will find many delicious and healthy recipes to try. Have fun!
I
he same old boring treats for dogs will soon no longer be an incentive for your four-legged friend to accept them as a welcome reward. What's more, most of these treats contain far too much sugar, so they really have no place in a dog's diet.
Now how can this be remedied? By simply making the dog cookies yourself in your kitchen! This is not so difficult, if the right recipes are available. Above all, your home-baked dog cookies are far more digestible for your four-legged friend than industrially produced treats.
In this guide, you will get an insight into how simple it can be to make treats for your dog yourself. Furthermore, you will be introduced to tools that can make baking much easier.
But first, you will get a thorough introduction to the digestion of your dog, so you understand why one thing or another should not be used for the four-legged friend. Learn what you can safely serve your dog in the bowl and what he should not get at all. Because many foods, from which you would not expect it at all, are pure poison for your darling.
In addition, you will be introduced to various nutritional options, because apart from the classic dog food cans and dry food bags, there are many other ways to feed your dog in a healthy way.
Now delve into this guide and learn things about your dog that you didn't know before.
Finally, try out the delicious recipes and give your four-legged friend a great (gourmet) pleasure. Even snacking is expressly allowed!
What actually are baking mats?
I
n recipes for making dog cookies, you will always find a note that special baking mats should be used for this purpose. This is also the case in the recipes at the end of this guide. But what is a so-called baking mat? Simply put, it is a baking pan, usually made of silicone, in which a corresponding dough is put. The baking mat has several shapes so that small dog cookies are created. Most often they are hemispheres, which come in different sizes, but there are also the baking mats in many other shapes and sizes. This ensures that the dog cookie gets an appropriate size for the dog. A baking mat can be used for many years and thus replaces the classic baking paper, which is often disposed of after one use. In addition, hardly any grease is needed to coat the mold, because most baking mats have good non-stick properties, so that the finished baked cookies can be easily removed from the mold.
Origin of baking mats
More and more pet owners have discovered baking treats for their four-legged friends. As with so many other things, this trend comes from the USA and is spreading more and more in Europe. The baking mats used for baking dog cookies actually had a completely different purpose. They were used to catch the fat from the food being baked in the oven. When these silicone mats are turned over, small indentations appear that are a perfect size for dog treats. This is how the idea was born to produce and distribute special baking mats suitable for making treats.
Use baking mats
Meanwhile, many different items of this type are available on the market, so you should pay attention to certain criteria when buying such a baking mat.
First and foremost, it is of utmost importance that the baking mat does not contain any harmful substances that could be released during baking. Of course, this is very difficult to trace, so there should always be a corresponding seal that guarantees the absence of harmful substances. Now just such baking mats are not necessarily cheap. So if a baking mat you have chosen seems particularly cheap, it could come from abroad and therefore be contaminated with harmful substances. Better reach for a higher quality product to protect your dog.
Nevertheless, if you have chosen a mat that you are not sure is contaminated, there is an option to anneal it before use. Oh dear... what is that now? It means nothing more than pulling the contaminants out of the silicone mat. It's a bit tedious, though, and your kitchen might take on an unpleasant odor that will probably last for some time.
First of all, you should clean the new baking mat in the dishwasher. After that, you now put the baking mat in the oven at 200 °C. This in itself is not bad, but the tedious part is that it will disappear into the recess of your oven for four hours. The smells that this creates are disgusting and you don't really want to be preparing food in your kitchen after that.
But the baking mat is still not ready for use after these four hours. Now it must be used once for so-called blind baking. To do this, prepare a slurry of 60% flour and 40% water and place it on the silicone mat. This dough
is baked in the oven and then disposed of. Now all pollutants that were present in the baking mat should be in these flour cookies
and you can finally, after a final cleaning, start with the real task: baking dog cookies for your darling.
Special care of these baking mats is not necessary. After use, you can either clean them with a dishwashing brush and a mild detergent or put the mat in the dishwasher. In any case, make sure to thoroughly rinse off any detergent residue that may be present.
Since there are now a lot of different models on sale, it can not be said unequivocally which are most often bought and used. Every pet owner is certainly anxious to acquire a very good baking mat in terms of quality. Here you should make comparisons, which you will get effortlessly on the Internet, and then make your choice. Probably, you will also not be spared to try several models to determine which baking mat is now the best for you.
Alternatives to baking mats
If you don't have a baking mat at hand or don't want to buy one, you can use baking paper instead. However, the challenge here is to form pretty-looking objects. You can try using cookie cutters if the mixed dough has the right consistency for this. But if the dough is too thin, it will not be possible to form shapes at all. Then your only option is to spread the cookie dough as a whole on the baking sheet and cut it into small pieces after baking, or use a spoon to place small mounds on the baking sheet to bake. But I wonder if that's respectable...? Well, Fiffi won't care if the cookie is round, thick, flat or just looks like a little dog pile... The main thing is that it tastes good.
Another alternative would be
