Thank you for downloading „German texts and short stories for beginners and intermediate students".

My name is Daniela, I’ve been teaching German online since 2012 and am the founder of "Learn German with stories". I learn languages myself and know both as a teacher and as a student how important it is to find interesting materials suited for your level.

There are many textbooks for German available and some of them are really good. However, it always feels like studying when you work with a textbook, doesn’t it? There are also great online course and apps for people who prefer to study on their own. They normally take you to a certain level or you learn a certain amount of vocabulary or pronunciation or certain aspects of the German grammar.

The way I’m working is a bit different. My books don’t aim to compete with textbooks or courses but want to complement what you already have and take the pressure out of your language learning. Regular comprehensible input will help you improve your German without feeling stressed. The materials I create are exactly the kind of materials I love to use when I study my current target languages Hungarian and Russian. They are most suitable for A2/B1 level students (advanced beginners and low intermediate learners). However, I create texts and stories for A1 and B2 students, too.

This book consists of two parts, a text part and a story part. The texts are all suitable for A2/B1 students. You don’t have to read them in the order they appear but can start with the one that sounds most interesting for you. Language is more than just words and sentences, it’s also culture, customs, history and geography. I was born and raised in Germany and as a result, that’s the country I know best. However, I also write about Austria and Switzerland. I have friends there and regularly travel to both countries. In each text, important words that you may not know yet are highlighted and you find those words with their English translations under the text.

In the story part, you will find 6 short stories ordered by difficulty. The first story is suitable for A1 but the difficulty increases with each story and you will need a B1+ level to understand the last one well. The vocabulary lists I added will help you but if you need to stop too often to look up a word and feel frustrated, get back to that story (and the following
