Blessing And Inauguration Of Two Newly-Finished Reconstructed Bridges In Maasin By Quirico M. Gorpido,Jr.

Maasin City, Southern Leyte-Two newly-finished reconstructed bridges in barangays Combado and Abgao have its respective blessing and inauguration held during the third week of July 2012. The blessing and inauguration were led and officiated by Rev. Garnett John Quirong of the Maasin Parish and DPWH Regional Director Rolando M. Asis. Cutting of the ceremonial ribbons of the two newly-opened bridges were also led by Director Asis. He was assisted by Governor Damian Mercado, District Engineer Carlos Veloso and Mayor Maloney Samaco. During the blessings Quirong prayed to the Lord that the bridges would serve as safe passages for pedestrians, commuters and the various passing vehicles in going in and out of the city. And that these bridges would also serve as links to peaceful friendship with other inhabitants in the neighboring towns of the two provinces in Leyte Island. The Combado Bridge under contractor Square Cube Construction worth P7.31M has started reconstructing during the third week of February 2012 and was completed before the last date of June 2012. The Abgao bridge also known as Tuburan bridge worth P9.73M plus started to be reconstructed on Feb. 20,2012 and completed four days before the June 30,2012 expiration date under contractor Engr. Alberto Barola of the Our Lady of Assumption Construction. Also present during the affair were Assistant District Engineer Manolo Rojas,DPWH Regional Chief Construction Division Luciano Gumba,Engrs. Vicent Sy,Leonides Olarte,Letecia Mercado-Olarte,Joselito Mercado,Combado Barangay Captain Ernesto Galleon,Abgao Barangay Captain Nacional Nikko Mercado,some DPWH personnel and media personalities.(Quirico M.
