The objectives of this researchare to help local policymakers and managersunderstandthe

hydrogeology of the study area in the Kickapoo River watershed, and create a map that describes
areasof groundwatervulnerability to aid decision-makingabout land useand management. This study
will create a vulnerability map that usesoverlay and index methods to delineateareasat risk. We will
ground-truth the resultsusing all availabledata and those collected by the researchteam headedby
John Ong.

This project will provide training for local people to identify karst featuresat the surface, and
provide an internet interface to report these featuresto the local LWCD office for verification. This
project will identify springs in the study area and report them for inclusion in the state databasethat
is available via the WGNHS office.

We will build new GIS layers for the Vernon County system. Some existing electronic data setswill
be incorporated, analog data possessed by the LWCD staff will be digitized for use,and new field data
will be collected and digitized. This will serve the purposesof this study, but set the stagefor the
areal extent of these layers to be extendedin the future €tsresourcesallow.
