Emily Taus Announces Candidacy for Governor of Vermont

Burlington, Vermont (Campaign Headquarters) July 1, 2008- -Emily Taus announced her entrance into the race for the Governor of Vermont earlier today. This is the first time that she has ever run for this seat, and the Democrat is currently the mayor of Burlington, Vermont. Taus main platform is elder care policy and funding reform. She believes that the state of Vermont can eliminate elder care and nursing home abuse by reforming policies and funding. Economic discrepancies are at the center of this problem, and solving economic concerns with this issue will eliminate abuse. Providing more funding for Medicare and Medicaid will ease the financial strain placed upon families who must pay for the gaps between costs covered and actual costs. A state-wide council will be developed to promote policy reform, and also educate, protect and defend the rights of the public and to empower patients and their families. Her plan also includes implementing mandatory background checks for workers of long-term care facilities, and a Zero Tolerance Law for workers who are found guilty of abuse to be kept out of the system permanently. Also, an increase of funding for additional staffing for care facilities will be provided, to cut back on heavy patient loads with the intention of reducing stress which causes abuse. I am fighting for a cause I truly believe in, Taus said Thursday when announcing her candidacy at Town Hall.
