Multiplying and Dividing Integers Activity

Wednesday, September 05, 2012 9:35 AM

Use counters to show 3 groups of -2. In One Note, write a multiplication problem that is represented by the counters. Using the exact numbers in the multiplication problem you created, rewrite your problem as another multiplication problem and two division problems. Look at the 4 problems you wrote. Look for a pattern with the signs of the numbers. What do you notice? When a positive number is multiplied by a negative number, (or visa versa) the answer is negative. When a positive is divided by a negative, it is also negative. Of course, positive divided by positive, is positive.
