Italian Semester 2 2012

During this Semester, the students in Grade 5&6 and 3&4 will learn about two topics. The first being, LETS BUY. The students will be involved in creating their own dialogue between customer and vendor, perform in short role- plays in a transaction between shopkeepers and customers, make comparisons between shopping in Italy and Australia, extend their knowledge of products imported from other countries. The second, Un Giro per LItalia. The students will investigate what they already know about Italy and its surrounds. They will further extend their knowledge by identifying the different regions and discussing key features in various regions. Students will learn a traditional dance from the region Friuli- Venezia Giulia. Students will be involved in a research project on a region of their choice.

The students in Grade 1&2 will focus on patterns in daily life and learn about Italy and its main attractions. The students will be able to make comparisons between daily patterns and/or traditions of special days. They will be able to report in oral/written form patterns of their daily life and the special days that are celebrated by others and report the findings. Students will explore main monuments and attractions in Italy. They will be able to extend their knowledge of Italian foods and make comparisons between eating in Italy and Australia. During Term 4 there will be an Italian Day. The students will be involved in various activities throughout the day. There will also be a dance performance and workshop. The dance will performed by an Italian Dancer from the region of Puglia, and the students will learn the history behind La Tarantella.
