Horror Sci-Fi Study

Horror
Our film will focus more on the elements of a conventional horror film rather than sci-fi. As the films antagonists are aliens, the horror deals with what is unknown to civilisation. Our main convention is probably the final girl. Ours is slightly different however as the entire film would revolve around the girl rather than other characters being picked off leaving her to overcome the problem. Other conventions used are sudden jumps/scares caused by loud noises and striking music, POV shot of antagonists The genre is of course horror/science fiction but will also rely on the psyche of our main character, focusing on the question of what she has seen and if it is really happening. These are elements of psychological horrors.

Science Fiction
Although our film has the generic conventions of a horror, we wish the sci-fi elements to be slightly more original. Alien invasion is something done more than alien abduction. They seem to be quite rare in Hollywood and are never usually successful. If not an invasion film, then Hollywood would prefer non-hostile aliens like in box office successes Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial (1982) very unlike the flops The Fourth Kind (2009) and Communion (1989). The only example of well executed alien abduction stories is the highly successful TV series The X-Files and its first film spin off.

In our film the antagonist will be the typical looking alien. This is because it will be based on eye witness accounts . The alien craft will also be similar to ones seen in previous films. The spaceships in Spielberg's Close Encounters would be our main inspiration for its design. The aliens will not be seen much in the film,, but they will appear to be tall, thin with long necks, round heads and wide eyes.
