Metering device
The metering device is a

calibrated restriction that is located in the liquid line between the condenser & the evaporator

Function of metering device

The function of metering device is to change

hot high-pressure liquid refrigerant from the condenser ,to the cool low pressure liquid that enters the evaporator. There are basically two type of metering device. 1. Fixed Orifice Tube. 2.Thermostatic Expansion Valve(TXV).

FIXED ORIFICE TUBE

It consist of small brass tube encased plastic

housing with a mesh filter The brass tube is considerably smaller then the tube leading into and away the orifice As the liquid refrigerant is passed through the brass tube its volume and therefore its pressure is reduced

Thermostatic Expansion Valve

TXV is located in the refrigerant liquid line between the condenser & evaporator. It is variable in nature, allowing the volume of refrigerant that is let into the evaporator. It is accomplished most often by placing a sensing bulb in location where it can sense the temperature of the evaporator

Outlet tube. As the temperature of evaporator increases above a desired temperature the valve opening is increased and the amount of refrigerant allowed to flow into the evaporator is increased accordingly.
