School has and will play a big part in your childs academic development.
But young learners whose ability goes well beyond that of others their
age may need extra resources to realize their full potential.
The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) is a nonprot
center dedicated to recognizing and developing K 12 learners of great
academic promise. Since 1979, CTY has supported advanced learners
through courses, services, and resources specically designed for them.
CTYs Talent Search for grades 2 8 is the bridge to CTY and all the
resources we can ofer your child. Please review these pages, and visit
cty.jhu.edu to see how CTY can be an essential part of your childs
development from now through the end of high school.

As a member of the CTY Talent Search, your child will take a test designed for
students several grades higher. Results from this above-grade testing will
prole your childs individual math and verbal abilities and show how they
compare with those of other very bright, same-age students in the US and
around the world.
We recommend enrollment in the CTY Talent Search if your child is in grades
2 8 and places in the top ve percent on national or state standardized
tests, or otherwise demonstrates superior academic performance.

CTY families leverage the experience of a leader in gifted education at
one of the worlds great research universities. By enrolling your child in the
CTY Talent Search, you help your child understand the values of intellectual
challenges and academic excellenceat a formative time in his or her life.
Top Talent Search students attend award ceremonies in selected states,
and the very top students can attend a national medal ceremony at
Johns Hopkins.
All Talent Search students can benet from the challenge and go on to
approach future academic milestones with greater condence.
CTY is accredited for grades 5 through 12 by the
Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle
States Association of Colleges and Schools.

We invite you to enroll your child in the 2012 2103
Johns Hopkins CTY Talent Search.
3 Easy Steps
1. Send a completed application to CTY.
Enroll online at cty.jhu.edu/talent or by mailing the enclosed
paper application in the self-addressed envelope. The Talent Search
application fee is $38.
2. Register for testing, then test.
After enrolling in the Talent Search, youll receive information about
required tests. Second through sixth graders take CTYs School and
College Ability Test (SCAT). Seventh and eighth graders can choose
the SAT, ACT, or an advanced version of the SCAT. CTYs Spatial Test
Battery (STB) is an option beginning in fth grade. Test fees range
from $35 to $75.*
3. Watch the mail.
Youll receive scores in the mail within three to seven weeks. Youll also
receive CTYs guide After the Test and information on the programs for
which your child is eligible.
Financial aid is available for all CTY programs. Students eligible for the
federal free- or reduced-price lunch program can participate in the
Talent Search at a reduced rate. For more information about Talent

Test Dates
Enroll in the Talent Search at least two months before any SAT or ACT test date
or one month prior to taking the SCAT or the STB.
Test Late Fall Winter Early Spring Late Spring

The CTY Talent Search
welcomes applications from
July 15, 2012 to May 31, 2013.
Students testing by February
28 and meeting award criteria
will be invited to ceremonies in
selected states in spring 2013.
Students testing after that date
and meeting honors criteria
will be invited to the 2014
ceremonies.
Students who test before Feb. 1
enjoy a wider range of Summer
Programs course options.
June 30 is the last day to take
the SCAT or STB.
