Meet the Author of My Fathers World

Marie Hazell is a speech and language specialist with a masters degree and teaching credentials. After completing her degree, she taught in a special language kindergarten where her interest in teaching children and adapting to their various learning styles developed. She then taught kindergarten and first grade in a Christian school, which challenged her to develop a program that focused on both strong and weak learners, often at different levels. With her background in the educational system, and then becoming the mother of six children, she realized the importance of the family in the educational process. Combining her experience and knowledge, she developed a Bible-based program for both homeschools and classrooms. Writing from her deep desire to further Gods kingdom, she continues to develop curriculum that is a unique combination of her own observations, Charlotte Masons ideas, and classical education, providing an international focus and Biblical worldview.

About the Author's Family

David and Marie Hazell lived in Russia for eight years working on Bible translation. In 1992, shortly after communist walls began to fall, they moved their family to the depths of Siberia where they assisted with printing the first Scripture portion in the Evenki language. David and Marie also served in Moscow, coordinating translation projects in 70 minority languages of the former Soviet Union. The Hazells have six children. The familys move back to the United States in 2000 marked a new era in their support of international missions work. They now devote the majority of their time to developing My Fathers World curriculum, focusing on a dual goal: raising up generations of families who see the world through Gods eyes and live according to that knowledge, and providing support for Bible translation through Gods Word for the Nations.

How Is Bible Integrated into Our Curriculum?

Bible is integrated into the study of history, science, and literature in each year of our program, helping children learn a Biblical worldview from kindergarten all the way through high school. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is studied in three cycles, each at a more detailed level.

Cycle 1 (K - 2nd):

Kindergarten God created the earth and everything in it. Each alphabet letter is linked to an object found in Gods creation and a Biblical character trait. Science activities and hands-on projects reinforce each character trait. First Grade Gods Story from Genesis to Revelation is read, narrated, and illustrated through more than 50 stories in the phonics-based Bible Reader. Simple projects, such as making a Bible times costume, help students connect with the Word of God. Adventures in My Fathers World (2nd or 3rd grade) Students study the names of Jesus, learning about His character while reading from their own grade-level Bible. Science lessons correlate with the names of Jesus (e.g., Bread of Life), and U.S. history spotlights the Biblical character of Americas forefathers. Exploring Countries and Cultures God calls us to share His love with the world. A study of the Gospel of Matthew and stories of missionaries help children understand Gods heart for all people. Students are introduced to the physical and spiritual needs of mankind as we learn about ecosystems and lifestyles in different parts of the world. This foundation prepares students to view the upcoming study of chronological history with Gods heart and mind. Creation to the Greeks See Gods hand and His plan throughout ancient history. An overview of the Old Testament, which serves as a key history text, allows students to study the Bible and ancient history side by side. Old Testament stories and celebrations come to life as families experience the Old Testament feasts, the ten plagues, and much more. Science experiments point to Gods design and purpose in Creation. Creation science teaches about dinosaurs and other discoveries from this time period. Rome to the Reformation An overview of the New Testament and the life of Jesus including a special focus on the books of Luke, Philippians, and 1 John. Roman civilizations, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the Reformation are viewed in the context of Christ and the early church. A study of astronomy and the human body is viewed from a Biblical perspective. Exploration to 1850 Studying and memorizing the book of James helps children understand mans struggles in world exploration. Inspirational true stories of faithful men and women encourage us to press on in difficult times. Gods creative hand is revealed through a scientific study of plants and animals. 1850 to Modern Times Stories from around the world and a life-changing Bible study teach basic Christian beliefs and invite families to live out the amazing privilege and responsibility of sharing Gods story of love with all people. Learn how prayer greatly impacts situations in our world, including many notable historical happenings. A beginning study of chemistry and physics offers many hands-on opportunities to recognize Gods ultimate power in our universe. Ancient History and Literature A verse-by-verse reading of the entire Old Testament encourages challenging, practical, daily application. Worldviews of ancient societies and their literature are studied and compared to a Biblical worldview. Each year of high school includes scheduled participation in student-selected community service projects. World History and Literature A verse-by-verse reading of the New Testament is combined with personal application from Experiencing God Youth Edition and other impacting resources. Church and world histories are studied from the time of Rome to the present. U.S. History to 1877 A Biblical worldview is studied in depth and then used to analyze the diverse worldviews found in early American literature. Worldview disciplines studied include theology, philosophy, biology, psychology, ethics, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history. U.S. History 1877 to the Present Concepts and skills for spiritual growth are taught to encourage lifelong habits and practices. These disciplines include in-depth Bible study, Scripture memorization and meditation, and prayer. Literature and history assignments continue to include analysis from a Biblical worldview.

Cycle 2 (3rd - 8th and 2nd graders with older siblings):

Cycle 3 (High School):

(573) 202-2000

Recognizes the Bible, Gods truth, to be the foundation of wisdom and education. Utilizes hands-on unit studies with daily lesson plans that are easy to teach. Enables families and schools to teach children of multiple ages and grades together. Combines the best of Charlotte Masons ideas and classical education with a Biblical worldview, an international focus, and our own observations of how children learn. Uses a comprehensive, sequenced learning program beginning with preschool learning toys to develop readiness skills. Our complete unit-based curriculum includes a phonicsbased learning-to-read program focusing on Gods amazing creation (kindergarten), the world of the Bible (first grade), and U.S. history (second or third grade). Then a year of geography sets the foundation for chronological world and U.S. history (through eighth grade). Our high school curriculum provides a Biblical framework for English, history, and other subjects. Provides easy-to-teach, integrated curriculum that is enjoyable, academically strong, and focused on character development. Is committed to the Lord of All, who tenderly searches for people from every tribe and language. A portion of our profits helps support mission work overseas, especially Bible translation projects. Our hearts desire is that someday soon all people would be able to read of Gods love in their own language.

Activities

Pretend to Be a Penguin Use the kitchen floor or a white sheet to represent snow and ice. Penguins cant fly, even though they are birds. So waddle on the snow, slide on your belly, and swim in the water. Eat some fish (tuna fish on crackers) when you get hungry. Hold a hard-boiled egg on top of your feet (try with puffy slippers) and see how difficult it would be to move. Imagine being a father Emperor penguin caring for the egg for two long months! Make up a story about your day as a penguin. Bible (see notes)

Icebergs Penguins live in a cold climate where icebergs are common. Make several icebergs by partially filling small plastic bags with water and freezing them in irregular shapes, somewhat like long triangular shapes, in a freezer. After they are frozen, remove them from the bags and float them in a sink or tub of water. Is any part of your miniature iceberg under water? Badge Make a penguin-shaped badge from white paper. Use black and orage crayons to add color. On the badge print, I show love to everyone, especially my family. Ask the student to tell you what these words mean. Discuss briefly.

Globe (see notes) Bible (see notes)

Paint a Penguin Show the student a picture of a penguin and let him look at it while he paints a penguin on blue paper. Tell him to add snow on the ground and little dots of falling snow in the sky. Bible (see notes)

Is My Child Ready for Kindergarten?

We usually recommend waiting to begin kindergarten until the year a child will be five years old in September. Some older four-year-olds are ready for kindergarten. When it is time to make this decision, you can ask yourself several questions about your child: Is he ready to sit down and do 20-30 minutes of written work each day? Does he have the manual dexterity to begin writing letters and words, and is he interested in doing so? Is your child taking time to sit down to draw and color on his own initiative? Is he excited about starting school? If you can answer yes to these questions, your child is probably ready for My Fathers World from A to Z kindergarten curriculum. If your child is not strong in these areas, we recommend our Preschool Package (see p. 5).

What if my child is already reading? Even if your four- or five-year-old is already reading, we still recommend using our kindergarten program. It is so much more than just a phonics program (and includes suggestions for advanced students). Powerful Biblical truthsmany that adults wrestle withare perfectly sized for a fiveyear-old. Children gain a wealth of knowledge about Gods love and His character. Hands-on thematic science units, interwoven with Biblical concepts, build a love of learning as your naturalborn explorer interacts with nature. Time spent cuddled up together with a good book and doing related activities will create memories for a lifetime. Almost all young children benefit from the fine motor skill development in the program and time to mature physically, emotionally, and spiritually before advancing to the next school year. See complete curriculum package on page 8.

Is My Child Ready to Begin First Grade?

If your child has not successfully completed My Fathers World from A to Z kindergarten curriculum, please take some time to determine if your child is really ready to begin first grade: Does your child know the 26 letter sounds (consonants and short vowels)? Letter names are not as important. Is your child generally able to print alphabet letters correctly? Is he generally able to place letters accurately on kindergarten-sized lined paper? Can he easily read short words such as hat, pig, and men without your help and without any accompanying pictures? (Was he taught how to blend sounds, not just memorize words?) Is he developmentally able to sit long enough to copy 4-6 short words on kindergarten-sized lined paper without complaining or becoming tearful? Is your child mature enough to sit cooperatively for 20-30 minutes at a time for structured school activities? (My Fathers World First Grade will take up to 2 hours each day to complete.) Will your child be six by September 1? (We do not recommend first grade for a four-year-old, even if he appears to be ready. A mature five-year-old about whom you can answer yes to all of the above questions may be ready to begin first grade. However, we still encourage you to consider using My Fathers World from A to Z because of all the wonderful things your child will learn about a relationship with Jesus through the integrated Bible and science. Kindergarten reading and writing assignments can be adjusted to meet the needs of a child who is already reading simple words.) If you can answer yes to all of the above questions, your child is most likely ready for first grade. If not, we recommend that you begin with My Fathers World from A to Z kindergarten curriculum. The skills taught in kindergartenespecially reading short vowel words fluently for many months give a child the foundation needed for success in first grade. My Fathers World First Grade quickly reviews these skills in the first three weeks of school and then moves on to new skills at a rapid pace. See complete curriculum package on page 10.

Is My Child Ready for 2nd Grade Using Adventures?

A child should have a strong foundation in these skills to begin Adventures in My Fathers World: Can your child write or copy 1-2 sentences fairly easily and cheerfully? If you were to read the story of David and Goliath to your child, would he be able to write several simple sentences about the story? (Spelling and punctuation do not need to be correct.) Have your child read a sample from our Bible Reader (www.mfwbooks. com/biblereader). Can he read it fairly easily? Please note that needing to sound out words is common at this age. If you are considering Adventures for an advanced six-year-old, is he prepared to spend 3-3 hours each day doing school? If you can answer yes to these questions, your child is probably ready for Adventures. (However, if he is younger than six-years-old, please call our office for placement help.) If your child is not strong in the above areas, we recommend My Fathers World First Grade. See complete curriculum package on page 12. This is my third year using your curriculum and I have to say I LOVE it!! I have a daughter who is in first grade and I thought that I could not teach her to read or write. Using and following your curriculum has made my job so easy! I have five kids that I homeschool and they LOVE it too. I tell others about your programs because I know they will not be let downlearning about God and getting a quality education. Thank you for giving homeschooling mothers a wonderful program that is easy to use. Veronica

Kindergarten Curriculum
My Fathers World from A to Z
Focus: God Created the World and Everything in It Complete curriculum 26 hands-on units Multi-sensory phonics Step-by-step instructions Character development 60-90 minutes daily
(whole/half), clocks, money, and an introduction to addition and subtraction. Science, Bible, Creative Thinking, Character Development, Childrens Literature, and Art are also integrated into the 26 easy-to-teach thematic units. Each six-day unit focuses on one alphabet letter and one corresponding science topic. For example, in Unit 1, S-s-sun, students learn letter s and number 1, study about the sun, construct and use a sundial, observe and chart grapes as they become raisins, paint a sun, listen to a funny book about shadows, and learn that, like the sun, Jesus is the Light of the World. A special feature is the focus on character development integrated into each unit. The turtle unit teaches I dont quit I persevere! The horse unit teaches I obey right away. The zebra unit teaches I cant hide anything from God. Daily Lessons are 60-90 minutes long. The clear step-by-step daily instructions are of great help to new homeschool teachers. Daily work is presented in three parts: 100 chart and monthly calendar Reading lesson Bible/character development lesson and the days special hands-on activityfocusing on science, math, art, childrens literature, and creative thinking (Children ages 3-8 may learn together using these activities.) For classroom use call our office.

A year-long hands-on learning adventure for young children. This complete kindergarten curriculum contains all necessary subjects and Second Edition is ideal for homeschool A Complete Kindergarten Curriculum or classroom. The first two weeks focus on the Creation story from Genesis, followed by 26 hands-on, easy-to-teach thematic units that focus on the wonders in Gods creation. The sun, moon, rocks, vegetables, elephants, butterflies, and dinosaurs are just a few of the exciting topics you will explore. (Learn about Second Edition enhancements on page 6.)
Marie Hazell, M.A.

Reading is taught with a highly successful multi-sensory phonics approach. Hands-on and workbook activities are combined to teach letter names, 26 letter sounds (consonants and short vowels), sound blending, and correct handwriting. Students learn to read and write short vowel words. By mid-year they are reading very simple stories. The reading lessons may be used successfully with 5-year-old and mature 4-year-old children, or with older children who are just beginning to learn letter sounds. See page 6 for placement recommendations. Each unit also recommends a childrens literature book (and alternate choices from a list of over 400 books) related to the theme that becomes the focus of related activities. Borrow these books from the library, substitute picture books of your choice, or purchase the Kindergarten Literature Collection (see p. 9).

By mid-year, students are reading simple stories. Math is taught using an informal, integrated approach. Many skills are woven into the lessons as students cut an apple in half, measure and compare the lengths of dinosaurs and whales, and order leaves by size. All typical kindergarten goals are taught, including counting objects, writing numerals, preparing and understanding charts and graphs, comparing, classifying, sequencing, and understanding ordinal numbers, fractions

Full-color alphabet cards coordinate with the 26 thematic science units.

My Fathers World First Grade is a complete first grade curriculum with a phonics-based reading program that focuses on the Bible. The integrated lessons also include language arts, social studies, science, math, art, and Bible. Easy-to-teach lesson plans guide you through a complete school year. Using a thematic approach, Bible history from Genesis to Revelation is the focus of this learning adventure. Phonics lessons develop the needed skills to read Bible stories from our Bible Reader. Students retell (narrate) the Bible story and create a lovely keepsake Bible Notebook in which they I taught school for eight years before being able to stay home with my children. I can only imagine how much better my students would have done if I had been able to teach your reading program! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Lisa summarize and illustrate Bible stories. Weekly memory verses selected from Proverbs help strengthen handwriting skills as well as Biblical character. Hands-on projects help the students understand and experience the world of the Bible. Creating a timeline helps them visualize Bible stories as

The Teachers Manual provides easy-to-follow daily lesson plans that teach new skills and allow for continuous review. Student worksheets reinforce phonics, spelling, and handwriting skills. By Day 38, students are able to read Bible stories in a special beginning level Bible Reader, which is included with the curriculum. For science, the focus is nature, using three age-appropriate, engaging science books included with the curriculum. For math, the Teachers Manual includes goals and activities for a hands-on approach to best develop foundational math principles. The Deluxe Package includes more hands-on manipulatives and a supplementary math workbook to reinforce skills. The first grade program is an ideal follow-up to the My Fathers World kindergarten program, but may be used by any student who is ready for first grade reading. An Overview of Our Multi-Age Family Cycle

Our unique and innovative multi-age curriculum for 2nd - 8th grade begins with a one-year foundation in geography followed by four years of history presented chronologically. Beginning with Creation, world history is integrated with Biblical history. When the study of U.S. history begins, it is presented in the context of world history so that your children will understand how world events continue to impact what happens in the United States. The curriculum is multi-age. Two or more children in 2nd - 8th grade may be taught together, using the same program. (This program also works well with one child.) Each child will enjoy activities appropriate to his age while studying the same curriculum as his siblings. This helps unify the family while easing the parents teaching schedule.

2nd through 8th graders study the same curriculum package together. Younger siblings are invited to enjoy some of the fun activities. When they reach 2nd grade, they fully join in their older siblings program.

How Our Multi-Age Family Cycle Works 1. If your oldest is in 4th - 8th grade, begin the Family Cycle at Year One with all 2nd - 8th graders. (K - 1st graders may participate in some of the easier activities for a low-key exposure to topics; however, their focus is our K and 1st grade programs.) If your oldest is in 2nd or 3rd grade, use Adventures in My Fathers World and begin the multi-age cycle the next year. Life is busy, but your well-laid-out lessons

make it very simple to accomplish. We have done 2. Continue through the multi-age cycle. When everything and still have lots of time for play and younger children reach 2nd grade, they life! C. R. join their older siblings in the family cycle using the same year the other children are studying. This unifies the family and assures that Mom is only teaching one of the multi-age cycle programs each year. (Younger children can easily join mid-cycle because they have already been exposed to the earlier years as a part of the family.)

3. When you finish Year Five, go back to Year One and cycle through Years One-Five with all your children who have not reached 9th grade. A 7th or 8th grader will repeat the years he was taught in 2nd and/or 3rd grade, yet he will approach them on a more advanced level. 4. When a child reaches 9th grade, he is ready for parent-guided independent work in our high school program. Each of our programs for grades 2-8 integrates Bible, literature, history/geography, science, music appreciation, art, and character development. Add grade level math and language arts for a complete curriculum program. When teaching multiple children in kindergarten - 6th grade, our easy-to-use daily lesson plans are usually completed in four hours each day when following our recommendations for math and language arts. An additional one to two hours of independent study in science and math is recommended for 7th and 8th graders.

Hands-On Activities Enhance Learning

Have you ever experienced life in arctic temperatures? Do you wonder how animals such as the penguin can withstand such chilling conditions? Students using My Fathers World not only read about important concepts and places, like Antarctica, but also discover them. The Penguin Activity is one of the many fun, impacting, and simple hands-on activities scheduled into My Fathers World daily lesson plans. Using just four items found in the average kitchen, and approximately 10 minutes of time, a student experiences first hand what it feels like in the bitter cold water, and discovers why a penguin can withstand these cold conditions when a human cannot. What a joyful opportunity for a parent to watch a student light up with excitement as learning jumps out of a book and becomes reality! We recognize school days are busy, so most projects are completed in 15-20 minutes. Expect one or two activities a week with additional suggestions marked as optional. You will already have many of the needed materials in your home. My Fathers World hands-on activitieseasy and time-efficient for Mom and Dadare designed to create learning that will last.

Making a cake of the world during Exploring Countries and Cultures

7th and 8th Graders in the Multi-Age Family Cycle

Engaging and challenging Advanced assignments Self-directed learning High school prep Literary analysis Planning skills
Each year of our multi-age family cycle for grades 2-8 is designed to meet the needs of both elementary and junior high level students. Your 7th and 8th graders experience higher educational challenges while remaining a part of family learning.

The 7th and 8th graders will continue to join the family teaching time for Bible, history, music, art, and read-alouds. As they are able, students transition from parent/teachertaught lessons to parent/teacher-guided independent lessons in science, math, and language arts. This self-directed learning teaches independent study skills, preparing students for high school and college. To make this transition as easy as possible: Science and math courses include daily lesson plans written to the students so they know which pages and which problems to do each day to complete the course in one school year. Math courses also include step-by-step solutions for all textbook problems and tests, as well as an instructional CD for each lesson. To help students learn long-term planning, we suggest the parent/teacher or the student make his own schedule for completing language arts workbooks. Building a schedule using the table of contents is one easy approach. To complete your curriculum for 7th and 8th graders, add: Apologia science (see p. 31) Saxon math (see p. 30) Language arts (see pp. 26 - 28) - Progeny Press Study Guides one each semester - Writing Strands - All-in-One English Series followed the next year by Applications of Grammar - Spelling Power (if needed)

What Are Student Sheets?

Student Sheets are convenient consumable pages designed to make life easier for Mom! Create lasting notebooks for each child as you complete activities scheduled in the Teachers Manual. Student Sheets include history or geography notebook pages, map work, hands-on projects, science activities, writing projects, games, and timeline figures. One set of Student Sheets is included in a Deluxe or Basic Package. Purchase additional sets so that all your 2nd - 8th graders have their own. (Student Sheets include cardstock, color printing, and colored paper and may not be photocopied.) We recommend purchasing Student Sheets for ages 3 to 1st grade as wellbuilding unity in the family as younger children participate in games, activities, and projects with big brothers and sisters.

Note for 2nd - 3rd Grade: The content of 1850 to Modern Times is difficult for 2nd and 3rd graders. The information is more difficult to understand than in our other history programs; many of the books are written at a higher comprehension level. The history content is often troublingdescribing wars and human crueltyand not suitable for younger students. The author of The Story of the World does not recommend using Volume 4 with 3rd grade or younger, and we agree. However, 2nd and 3rd graders can still join you for Bible, science experiments, science readings (the easier sections), and president and state studies. (Your 2nd and 3rd graders will have an opportunity to repeat 1850 to Modern Times in 7th or 8th grade, when they will have the maturity needed to fully comprehend the complex information.) To add history content for 2nd and 3rd graders, you will need the 2nd - 3rd Grade Supplement for 1850 to Modern Times. Fascinating literature books as well as two activity books help make history and U.S. geography come alive for younger students. You will find all of these books conveniently scheduled in your lesson plans. They are great books, and you wont want to miss any of them!

Language Arts Grades K-12

Why Does My Fathers World Recommend Primary Language Lessons (PLL), Intermediate Language Lessons (ILL), Writing Strands, and Spelling Power?
1. When you combine the above books with the practical language arts skills already in My Fathers World curriculum, the coverage of language arts is very thorough. This combination follows a Charlotte Mason approach better than any other program we know. 2. The moral content is excellent. PLL and ILL are reprints of public school books from the early 1900s. ILL even begins with a story about Moses. 3. The programs are very efficient and quick to teach. They teach skills without a lot of fluff and extras that really arent needed. Spelling Power takes 15 minutes, scheduled four times per week. PLL takes about 15 minutes and is only taught three times per week. 4. They are very flexible. You can adjust lessons to your childs needs or a particular days responsibilities. If a child has already been writing a lot in one day, you can often give the PLL or ILL lesson orally. This REALLY speeds up the lesson, too! 5. They are cost-effective. These books may be reused with any number of children. PLL is only $10.95 for two full years! Spelling Power is a one-time purchase to teach spelling to all of your children for all the years it is needed. 6. Minimal parent preparation time is needed. Writing Strands provides specific, step-by-step instructions; parents simply open the book and read it to the student. In addition, Writing Strands is recommended because students are guided through complete compositions, not just sentences or isolated paragraphs. The amount of weekly work is very reasonable. It is written for the individual student, not a classroom. It doesnt assume or rely on knowledge of parts of speechwhich we believe should be taught at a later age. 7. This is a gentle approach, less stressful for children or parents. We are concerned that so much energy goes into language arts that children are worn out for the day, before you even get to the good stuff in homeschool. When is it best to teach parts of speech? Respected homeschool expert Ruth Beechick advises parents to wait until junior high to teach parts of speech. Students dont need to diagram sentences or formally learn about prepositions, adverbs, etc., when they are young. Why teach the same concepts, year after year, at the elementary level? These concepts are learned more easily at an older age when students are able to think more abstractly. Parts of speech are taught informally in PLL and ILL, and you may not even realize it. In the last year of ILL (6th grade), when children are old enough to retain it more easily, parts of speech are covered more directly. Older children understand abstract concepts more easily than 3rd and 4th graders. We have found that 7th grade is an ideal time to begin formally teaching parts of speech, and it is taught thoroughly at that point. For 7th graders, All-in-One English Series is an excellent, simple-to-use, first-year course that teaches all eight parts of speech and reviews capitalization and punctuation. For 8th graders, Applications of Grammar thoroughly covers parts of speech, diagramming, and more. Gods World News, PreK - 12th grade, is a monthly current events magazine with a Biblical worldview. For more than 25 years, hundreds of thousands of students have benefited from Gods World News focus on news, knowledge, wisdom, and action. Available in four different reading levels.

Grades 2-6 - Singapore Math

With Daily Lesson Plans written by My Fathers World

Singapore Math was originally developed in the country of Singapore. Students in Singapore are distinguished among their international counterparts for receiving high marks in math. Singapores Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition includes additional information for teaching math relative to American culture (U.S. currency, pounds, ounces, inches, etc.). Singapore Math has a strong mental math component (unlike many U.S. programs) that is one of its primary strengths. Logical, unique strategies are taught that help students truly understand mathematical concepts. Students are then able to solve problems mentally without always relying on paper and pencil. Creative problem solving is encouraged as students are taught several methods to solve the same problem. We also appreciate the manageable number of workbook problems that students are expected to solve on a daily basis. Its effective parent- and student-friendly format makes this a program we highly recommend. Before you order Singapore, your child must take a placement test (available free on our website). Singapore Math is a very strong program; expect your child to test one or two (or more) levels below his actual grade level. Each two-semester set includes two reusable textbooks, two consumable workbooks (one per semester), and lesson plans by My Fathers World. All lesson plans for levels 1A-6B include answers. Workbooks for an additional student are available. Basic or Deluxe PackageWhats the Difference?

Think about a big, juicy deli sandwich. Two slices of the freshest bread, your favorite meats, and tasty cheese. Delicious! But wait a minutetheres also a deluxe sandwich that includes crisp lettuce, red ripe tomatoes, pickles, onions, and that secret sauce. More delicious! You may be asking what this has to do with Basic and Deluxe Packages. We are often asked, What is the difference between these two packages? and Do I really need the items in the Deluxe Package? The sandwich with all the fixings is the Deluxe Package. When the Hazells began gathering resources to use with their children, the books and activities were not divided into basic and deluxe. They simply chose books and activities they felt gave the best, well-rounded education for their children, using what has become the Deluxe Packages. The option of a Basic Package was created to offer choices for our customers. Because the Deluxe Package has excellent books that may be part of a familys library, offering a Basic Package gives families a great discount while only purchasing the items needed to complete their Deluxe Package. We also wanted to provide families on a tight budget with an option that includes all of the basic elements for each years study. So, the Deluxe Package is like the deli sandwich with all of the trimmings, fresh and mouthwatering. The Basic Package has essential items you need for the year, but choosing the Deluxe Package will bring a richer, fuller experience.

Impacting Culture: Evolution-Free Resources

My Fathers World has had the privilege of influencing secular publishers to edit the content of their books. Walking along-side these publishers, MFWs editorial team has been able to change evolutionary language to more neutral language acceptable to most audiences. The primary change in many resources is to simply change phrases like millions of year ago to many years ago. My Fathers World resources that have been revised: The World of Animals, MFW edition* The World of Science, MFW edition* Illustrated World Atlas, 2011 edition Great Animal Search, 2009 edition Living World Encyclopedia, 2009 edition Pyramids, 2010 edition or newer History of the World, MFW edition Please pray that God will open the door for My Fathers World to work with other publishers in the future.
*The publisher of The World of Science and The World of Animals allowed us, with the assistance of Master Books, to change the overall tone of these books to glorify God for His amazing creation.

Read stories of Gods work in the lives of families using My Fathers World and get practical tips for teaching our programs. Here are some examples: General Ideas for Kindergarten One of the math activities is the 100 chart and we reached 100 today! My son was so proud! Some of the activities we included in our celebration were graphing the colors of 100 M&Ms, reading One Hundred Hungry Ants, and watching a very short video from our library, 100 Day Worries. But the thing my boys enjoyed most was bowling! 10 pins for 10 frames=100. (My husband came up with the idea and even took a couple hours off this afternoon and joined us.) Score keeping was great math for my 3rd grader also. I think keeping the 100 chart has really helped my K son with not only counting but with place value too. I hope this helps inspire some ideas for someone elses 100 Day Celebration. This has been a great K year for my son using MFW! Field Trips with ECC At the end of our school year we went to our local zoo, which was awesome because it was laid out by continent! We also visited a botanical conservatory that was divided by the habitats of the world. How awesome is that?

How Is Literature Included?

My Fathers World is a literature-rich curriculum that strives to provide the best choices for literature while keeping annual curriculum costs at a minimum. All required books are included in the curriculum packages. In addition, an extensive list of highly recommended, but optional, library booksorganized by week, theme, and reading levelis included with each year of our curriculum. This list allows My Fathers World to provide excellent literature options for children of all reading levels. There are four types of reading in our programs for grades 2-8: read-alouds, reading on theme, independent reading, and reading for comprehension. Read-Alouds Each year of curriculum for 2nd - 8th grades provides a core set of books scheduled in our Teachers Manuals for Bible, history, and science. These books are read aloud together as a family. Reading time is followed by parent/teacher-led discussion, narration, and other activities designed for retention. Engaging literature for the entire family, including missionary biographies and other life-impacting classics, is also scheduled in our Teachers Manuals and included in the Deluxe Package. Thematic Independent Reading Book Basket is designed to develop a love for reading using living books. Each of our Teachers Manuals recommends hundreds of colorful picture books, chapter books, fascinating biographies, videos, and DVDs related to the history, geography, music, and science being taught each week. Some of these books may be borrowed from the library and placed in a simple basket (or box) at home. Students are then able to choose those titles that most interest them, exposing them to a wide variety of literature, while enriching their learning experience. Children who love to read also love to learn. Independent Reading at Grade Level Independent reading from chapter books is scheduled daily for 20-30 minutes. Books may be selected from a list of over 100 classic titles organized by grade level, the Book Basket recommendations, or other chapter books of your choosing. Reading for Comprehension Customers choosing to follow My Fathers Worlds recommendations for language arts complete activities by grade level that provide both written and oral comprehension activities in response to various reading assignments. These activities are found in Primary Language Lessons, Intermediate Language Lessons, and Progeny Press Study Guides.

Charlotte Mason Influence

Charlotte Masons educational philosophy has influenced the development of My Fathers World. The following key principles and ideas are integrated into our curriculum: Structured mornings that feature short, effective lessons with unstructured afternoons left for other activities Study other countries and cultures early to avoid an arrogant habit of mind (Year One of the family cycle Exploring Countries and Cultures) Study history in chronological order and compare across countries in any given time period Read great literature aloud at grade level and above with featured living books and more Century Bookscreate timelines and history notebooks Weekly nature walks, including notebooking Children are given direct contact with the Bible at an early age We are using Exploring Countries and Cultures. The lesson plans are well laid out, require very minimal preparation, and are very realistic with regards to the work load each day. Your recommendations for language arts and composition have been excellent. We thoroughly enjoy the read-alouds, and the Bible lessons have made discipling our children (ages 4, 11, 17) easy and effective. We have all grown so much in our faith together this year. We have learned so much from the missionary stories and have been encouraged to live boldly for the Lord. M. T.

Why Ancient History and Literature in High School?

While reviewing the sequence of the high school program, you may be asking, Can my student skip Ancient History and Literature since it is not a state requirement for graduation? Though not state-required, My Fathers World believes Ancient History and Literature is critical to a Biblical scope and sequence for high school. This program provides high school students with a solid foundation in Bible that includes reading the entire Old Testament. Integrating Old Testament readings with the study of ancient cultures and literature meets the greater goal of educating children with solid Christian beliefs, while achieving strong academic goals. Ancient History and Literature helps high school students embrace a strong Biblical worldview by developing analytical skills and spiritual maturity. Students will be faced with many thoughtprovoking life issues including, Will I live for my pleasure, or will I live for Gods glory? Ancient History and Literature is important for all high school students, even those who have recently studied this time period. Dont miss this great opportunity to give your children more of Gods heart for His people and His creation while preparing them for college or a career.

Composition and Grammar in My Fathers WorldHigh School

In Year 1, Ancient History and Literature, composition focuses on the argumentative essay. The Ancient Literature Supplement with Grammar and Composition instructs students step-bystep how to write a strong five-paragraph argumentative essay. Five unique argumentative essays are written during the year to help students improve their skills. Detailed instruction explains how to write a thesis statement and format each of the five paragraphs. Grammar lessons related to this type of writing are included. These essays draw from what is being studied in Bible, English, and history to help students mature in their understanding and ownership of a Biblical worldview. One essay prompts the student to compare and contrast the gods motivations and relationships in Bulfinchs Mythology to that of the Living God. As students think through and write this type of essay, they cannot help but grow in their understanding of their God. Students also create original psalms and complete less structured essays on history topics. During Year 2, World History and Literature, a traditional research paper is written during the first ten weeks. This project includes research and bibliography note cards, footnotes, and a bibliography. The student also learns to write ten other types of compositions in response to literature read during the program. Writers INC provides instruction for the research paper and other assigned compositions, and serves as an excellent resource on language usage. In Year 3, U.S. History to 1877, American literature is analyzed from a Biblical worldview using reading and writing assignments in the American Literature Supplement. The Progeny Press study guide for The Scarlet Letter also includes assigned essays. In addition, grammar review is included using Easy Grammar Ultimate Series: Grade 11. Year 4, US History 1877 to the Present, includes one semester of modern American literature and one semester of speech. Each classic novel read from this time period is analyzed using a book review included with the lesson plans.

My Fathers World has always appreciated the efforts of the Home School Legal Defense Association to preserve and advance the educational freedom we have as homeschoolers. HSLDA works on behalf of homeschoolers to protect our ongoing freedom to educate our children at home by monitoring laws introduced by state and federal legislators. They defend our rights in court when litigation is necessary. Their staff writes letters on our behalf when school administrators, law enforcement agencies, or government officials try to unlawfully limit our homeschooling activities. Additionally, they monitor the United Nations to assure that our parental rights are not restricted. For all of this we are eternally grateful. A great debt is owed to HSLDA for the freedom we all enjoy.

MFW Encourages Every Family to Join HSLDA!

What Should 21st-Century Christians Be Teaching Their Children? .................................. $3.95 Todays homeschooling parents have a great opportunity: to raise their children in a way that truly can change the world for Christ. What are the keys to accomplishing that? Classical education is often defined by what was taught to children long ago. The better question is: what did classical tutors intend students to know once they were educated? Learn the difference between the GrecoRoman model and Hebraic model of classical education. Working Dads Can Homeschool, Too! ..................................................................................... $3.95 What is your current role in your familys homeschool? Believe it or not, busy dads can be involved in school too. There are simple things you can do to connect with your children and help de-pressurize your wifes already overloaded day. David Hazells Testimony (included in Take My Life and Let It Be and the Seven-CD Set) .................... $3.95 What passion has God placed in your heart, and what is He doing to prepare you to fulfill that calling? Take My Life and Let It Be ..................................................................... $24.95 David developed 11 one-hour seminars based on this inspiring hymn for a family camp. The familys move back to the U.S. in April 2000 marked a new era in their support of international missions work. They now devote the majority of their time to the development of My Fathers World curriculum with the dual goal of providing support for Bible translation and raising up generations of families that see Gods hand in all of history and share Gods heart for the nations.

Eleven one-hour seminars focus on the themes in the hymn Take My Life and Let It Be Consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Scripture and stories are used to challenge families and individuals to re-evaluate every aspect of their life as they prepare to be more fully dedicated to God.

Prayer Focus 2012: Bibles for a Muslim People Group

One Bible Translation CompletedAnother on the Way
This past August tears of joy, stories of long-awaited anticipation, shouts of praise, and songs of thanksgiving celebrated the first complete Bible for the Tuvan people in Tuva, Russia. We, who have always had Gods Word in our language, can hardly imagine the emotion of such a day. One woman explained that as soon as the Bible was given to her, she began to read, to study, to hold itshe could not put it down. The Bible she had received a month earlier was already highlighted and written in from cover to cover. It had become a well-worn friend. The release of another complete Bible is planned for 2012! This Muslim people group in southwest Russia, where war and terrorism have killed thousands, desperately needs Gods Word. The few believers in this land are looking forward to having the entire Bible in their heart language. A Christian woman from this war-torn region shared, Life is still hard here. Many people are in need. We have no church building and gather in homes instead. There are more Christians now than before the war and people are growing in their faith. I am so glad the whole Bible will soon be printed! Pray that my people will understand that Jesus is Lord and not only a prophet. This people group is just one language of the more than 43 found in the North Caucasus region. Please join us in prayer for the completion of this Bible translation and a readiness in these peoples hearts to receive Gods Word.
