PLUNGER PUMPS

A plunger pump is a type of positive displacement pump where the highpressure seal is stationary and a smooth cylindrical plunger slides through the seal. This type of pump is often used to transfer municipal and industrial sewage.

TYPES
Direct-acting piston pumps have a plunger on the liquid end that is directly driven by the pump rod and carries the piston of the power end. Indirect-acting pumps are driven by means of a beam or linkage connected to and actuated by the power piston rod of a separate reciprocating engine. A simplex plunger pump, sometimes referred to as a single piston plunger pump, is a pump having a single liquid cylinder. A duplex plunger pump is the equivalent of two simplex type pumps placed side by side on the same foundation. The driving of the pistons / plungers of a duplex pump is arranged in such a manner that when one piston is on its upstroke the other piston is on its down stroke, and vice versa.

A single-acting plunger pump is one that takes a suction, filling the pump cylinder on the stroke in only one direction, called the suction stroke, and then forces the liquid out of the cylinder on the return stroke, called the discharge stroke. A double-acting plunger pump is one that, as it fills one end of the liquid cylinder, is discharging liquid from the other end of the cylinder. On the return stroke, the end of the cylinder just emptied is filled, and the end just filled is emptied. Triplex plunger pump consist of the power end and fluid end.Such pumps have been applied to the various overseas, oilfield for scores of years, which proves the pump realibility and steady performance.

Cat Pumps plunger pumps are more efficient than other types of pumps, sometimes offering greater than 50% improvement. With highly-efficient pumps and proven dependability.

OPERATION
Plunger pumps are reciprocating pumps that use a plunger or piston to move media through a cylindrical chamber. The plunger or piston is actuated by a steam powered pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric drive.Plunger pumps are also called well service pumps, high pressure pumps, or high viscosity pumps. Plunger pumps use a cylindrical mechanism to create a reciprocating motion along an axis, which then builds pressure in a cylinder or working barrel to force gas or fluid through the pump. The pressure in the chamber actuates the valves at both the suction and discharge points.

SPECIFICATONS
Power pumps typically have high efficiency and are capable of developing very high pressures. They can be driven by either electric motors or turbines. They are relatively expensive pumps and can rarely be justified on the basis of efficiency over centrifugal pumps. They are frequently justified over steam plunger pumps where continuous duty service is needed due to the high steam requirements of direct-acting plunger steam pumps Pumps are available in brass, nickel aluminum bronze, 316 stainless steel and duplex stainless steel. The plunger pump product line can be customized to operate at pressures in excess of 10,000 psi ,flows up to 1,594 gpm , and temperatures to 400 F.
