This lesson will teach students to describe characters through the use of adjectives and result in them creating a short story about a celebrity or well known animated character.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
Prior lessons have focused on qualities associated with animals and characters. Students should already be able to sign descriptive characteristics, such as hairstyle, racial identity, and facial specifics.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, the students will: 1. Be able to describe characteristics of famous people or animated characters. 2. Be able to sign a short story about a famous character.

ASL NATIONAL STANDARDS:


Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information and exchange opinions. Students demonstrate an understanding of the practices and perspectives of the Deaf Culture studied. Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own. Students show evidence of becoming life-long learners by using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment. Continued development of knowledge and language skills for communicating with deaf people who sign, including numbers, fingerspelling, and culture. Emphasis on enhancement of receptive and expressive sign skills.

MATERIALS
Computer PowerPoint

LESSON INTRODUCTION
The lesson will be introduced by stating the objective of the lesson, which is to learn how to describe qualities associated with animals and famous people and animated characters on PowerPoint.

ACTIVITIES
Students will be provided with new sign vocabulary and grammar structures on PowerPoint for the purpose of being able to describe people and animated characters. Students will then be asked to work with their partner on describing people and animated characters and to select one to describe in front of the class. Teacher should move around the classroom observing, assisting and evaluating students work.
