Some people lose their life whereas some suffer serious injuries. On many occasions, school children were the victims. It is for the reason that our school has decided to launch a Road safety Week campaign with the aim of raising awareness among the students on the need to be more responsible on the road. Why do road accidents occur? One of the causes of the road accidents is because the road users or the students do not use the overhead bridge available while crossing the busy road. These students think that using the overhead bridge will waste their time and they tend to take risks by running across the road. Their action is very dangerous to them as they might be hit by the speeding vehicles. So, students are advised to use the overhead bridge or zebra crossing where available when crossing the busy road. Riding bicycles side by side in the middle of the road is another cause of road accidents. This is very dangerous because they might be hit from the back by other vehicles. To avoid this from happening, they have to follow the flow of the traffic and cycle in a single file along the road. Apart from that, students might be the victims of road accidents if they play on the road. They enjoy themselves running, talking and joking with one another while crossing the road without realising the dangers that they might face. So, students are advised to be careful when walking or crossing the road as it is not a playground. Finally, the other cause of road accidents is the students are not being alert when using the road. They tend to talk with one another while walking along the road or while crossing the road.
