August 29, 2011 Dear Lola Wright Foundation, The Mary Lee Foundation is respectfully requesting assistance from the Lola Wright Foundation in form of a grant in the amount of $12,000 for our Virtual Surveillance Project. As a large and growing provider for lowincome and disability housing, the concern for security is a top priority regarding preservation of property and client safety. Mary Lees centralized geographic location, on the Capitol Metro bus line, provides easy access to jobs, shopping, and medical services for our residents. Tenant interaction with life outside of the Mary Lee Community promotes activities that build self-worth and dignity. We aim to stimulate the local circular economy by integrating services that reconnect disadvantaged people back into the local community. The Mary Lee Foundation offers: Co-op services for disabled persons approaching independent functioning Long-term care for adult survivors of brain injuries and other disabilities, including 24-hour services Day Rehabilitation services and life skill training Emergency housing for near homeless people, and low-income persons Food Pantry and emergency provisions Personal development programs and support groups Free classes to enhance personal health Low cost office space for 501(c)(3) organizations compatible with the Foundations goals

The Mary Lee Foundation has served Texas since 1963 and is dedicated to uphold our reputation of safety, and dependable residential services. The community within the Mary Lee Square and the surrounding areas rely on our assurance to provide safety and preservative measures to protect our programs. Negligent actions can influence a neighborhoods conditions. The neighborhood culture is a determinant of social and economic well-being. With a socio-culture of different value systems entwined with environmental poverty challenges, tenants are more prone to illegal or destructive behaviors. Although, several case studies have proven that high security and clear rules elevate safety and foster positive initiative in residents.

The surrounding local businesses shape the expectations of the communitys values. Protective measures deter crime and let the Austin community know that we support and encourage safe care for our consumers, as well as safe co-existence and integration with surrounding Austin businesses. It is pertinent that a security system is in place to protect the structural integrity of the Mary Lee Community, foster a positive socio-cultural environment, and encourage the longevity of housing programs in co-existence with surrounding Austin neighborhoods. Please do not hesitate to contact Rich Lilljedahl with any questions regarding the merits of this project. We look forward to a fulfilling partnership with your foundation. Thank you very much for your consideration,
