Summary

The number one cause of collisions from my research was reckless driving. People that ignored the posted speed limit and lost control of their vehicles caused numerous fatal accidents. By ignoring the posted speed limit, people easily lost control of their vehicles and would end up colliding with another roadway user, or an object such as a tree or wall. These serious accidents could have easily been avoided if the drivers simply slowed down and followed the legal speed limit, or stopped ignoring the roadway laws. The second most common cause of collisions was drinking while driving. The effect of the alcohol impaired the drivers of each vehicle, and ended up causing dangerous or fatal collisions. Alcohol impairs judgment, reaction time, and vision. This is a serious danger to other roadway users if someone over the legal limit is behind the wheel. The easy solution to this problem is just not getting behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking, or having a designated driver that has not been drinking. I have learned that many drivers ignore the current driving laws, and this causes many deaths and serious collisions. More severe consequences need to be implemented when a driver carelessly beaks a serious driving law the main causes of accidents has to be changed. If someone is charged for drinking and driving or speeding, they shouldnt just get a ticket or DUI. They should be charged a higher fine, or even days in jail. If they hurt or kill someone because of drinking while driving or reckless driving, they should have years in jail, with a high bail cost. If these consequences were implemented into society, then there wouldnt be as many accidents and deaths. People wouldnt want to even try drinking and driving, or speeding, if they had harsher consequences. This idea would improve safety on the road, and teach those who ignore the law that they will not get away with it. Drinking while driving and speeding leads to the death of many innocent people. These innocent deaths should not be taken lightly with a simple ticket.
