Artists may use their artwork to express certain emotions that they may have. The artworks serve as a visual portrayal of the emotions and ideas that they want to express to others. Such examples can be in the forms of paintings, sculptures, or propaganda. Such is the case in the provided examples. A depressing emotion is portrayed in the painting from Picasso during his Blue Period. Frida Kahlos painting is meant to express the suffering that she has been enduring. Meanwhile, the propaganda poster is meant to express a message based on emotions to others.

Art does not have to be serious or express any types of messages or emotions. An artist may choose to create a work of art for their own joy. If the artwork is meant to express an emotion, it can also be used to express joy and show how fun is in the opinion of the artist. Such is the case in the following artworks. These artworks do not really have any messages that are meant to be conveyed to the viewers. The artists have specified that their works were meant to display images of fun and were made for their own joy.

For centuries, art has also been used to portray beauty. Whether on a small or large scale, artworks of beauty have the purpose to impress the viewers. Typically, artworks that have the purpose to display beauty are done so in a way that represents the accepted conventions of what beauty is seen to be. Such is the case in the artworks of the Renaissance as many works of the time period focused on the beauty of the human body. However, there may be people who may have different ideas of what they see as beauty and represent their ideas in different artworks.
