Pit optimization- To know the ultimate pit limit with highest possible Net Present Value (NPV) over the life of the mine or maximize the resources. Input/Information 1. Geological block model- grade, rock types and other 2. Economic parameters -selling price, a unit cost of mining (ore and waste) and a unit cost of processing (ore) and any adjustment factors . 3. Mining Parameters -pit slope, dilution, minimum mining width, mill recovery, targeted Mine/Plant capacities and qualities etc. 4. Physical limitations- topography, boundaries or any surface constraints. 2. Geotechnical Assessment To know the overall slope angles with optimum factor of safety and depth suitable for the mine rock conditions and determine bench parameters. Input/Information Geotechnical data for design can be obtained from a number of sources including: published literature, natural outcrops, existing surface excavations, chip and diamond drilling (for determining rock mass strength*, structure, and hydrogeological data), geophysical interpretations, seismic records, pump tests, field tests, trial pits, and experience. 3. Long term mine planning Life of mine plan includes detailed designing of ultimate pit, Dump design and their locations. 4. Medium term and short term mine Planning- It includes Medium (5 Years to life) and short (Quarterly to annual plan for first 5 years).
