MEST 3

What can I expect to be on my exam?

Basic Information

2 hours Section A (1 hour): Analysing two texts


15 minutes reading time 3 questions Answer all questions

Section B (1 hour): Case Studies

4 questions (2 representation; 2 new media) Answer one question

NB You must write in black

Marks

Section A is worth 30 marks you should spend around an hour (including the 15mins viewing time) Section B is worth more marks you must spend an hour writing this response.

MEST 3: Section A

This means
You will be shown the moving images texts three times There will be short gaps in between each showing The examination allows for you to spend 15 minutes studying the texts Use it!

Exam

In preparation for the MEST 3 exam, you will need to complete your own case studies for each topic (new media/representation) CASE STUDY: an in-depth area of research, involving the critical analysis of a media text, drawing upon concepts, context, theories, issues and debates.

Case Study

Its important for both case studies you study a range of texts, preferably across more than one media platform, in order to develop your own informed views about representation and the impact of new/digital media.

You must articulate your views upon these two topics in the exam, supporting them with evidence and examples drawn from your own case studies.
