A Suggestion for 2013

Present yourself with a GIFT. (We usually don't give gifts for ourselves.) Find one of your unfinished projects, think of it as a future GIFT. You have 300 plus days to complete this GIFT. You can finish it, pass it along to a friend, or give it to your guild to finish or sell. Show and Share sure could be fun this year as we "unwrap" our GIFTS .

February 2nd is quickly coming, GROUND HOG DAY. Last years Quilt Show Chairpersons are looking for their shadows. They would like members to be their shadow, or take on the role of a chairperson. Julia Reynolds and Bobbie Sweezy have agreed to be co-chairs 2013 Quilt Show and shadow myself. for 2014 show. INTERESTED contact an officer or show up at 5pm night of the board meeting (Wed week before our general meeting) Trudy

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was nine years old. It is a talent that has come in handy. I made the kids quilts in the 70s and when everyone left home I started to make more serious quilts, meaning I used quilting patterns that stated quilt as desired at the end of the pattern. Eight years ago my husband and I moved to Sahaurita, AZ, half an hour south of Tucson. I joined a newly starting guild and found my place with the most wonderful friends. When I moved to Woodland, I started to look for a quilting guild. I found the Flying Needles Guild. I hope I will find my place with the group and a lot of new friends. Diane Hudson

Chris Williams is sharing her punch recipe from the meeting:

1 gallon of Cranberry-Raspberry drink from Costco-- I used my tupperware jello mold and filled it halfway with the drink and froze it, so I didn't have to use ice cubes that would have diluted the punch. 1 large 7-up 1 large club soda

Fat Quarter Exchange

The December birthstone Fat Quarter Exchange was a big hit with the beautiful blue fabrics; there were 15 participants, and we had three winners: Linnie Faina, Bobbie Swezey, and Gail Russick. Januarys birthstone is Garnet, so bring your TWO deep red fat quarters and join the fun. Heres the way it works: You bring two good quilt-quality fat quarters (18 x 22) in the color for that month; one goes to our Quiltique, and the other is in the drawing that month. Lucky members win the fat quarters for that month. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you and your families. See you next year! Carol Smith, Fat Quarter Exchange Chairperson
See following Guidelines for details. If you have questions please See Carol Smith (916 991 7281).
Each month will feature a different birthstone color. Bring two Fat quarters to the Fat Quarter Exchange table. Write your name on your ticket and drop it in the appropriate box. One of your fat quarters will go into that months drawing. The other will be donated to the Guilds Quiltique for the next quilt show. There is no restriction on how many times you may win during the year. Fat Quarter is 22X18 2012-13 Birthstone Fat Quarters July Ruby Red Feb. Amethyst - Purple

Quiltique Corner
"Hi Quilters, We hope you're enjoying a wonderful Christmas and New Year's! We're looking forward to resuming Quiltique Sewing-at-the-Mall on Jan. 8, 10-2, and hope you'll join us. We'll have projects on hand to sew, but we always welcome any projects you may want to bring from home. Looking forward to seeing you on January 8, 2013! Marilyn Roland and Lois Dell Quiltique Co-Chairs"

NCQC MEETING

The January quarterly meeting of the Northern California Quilt Council will be held on Wednesday, January 16. The program will be a panel discussion on the topic of Quilt Judging. Have you ever wondered what the judges look at when they critique your quilt? Why did one quilt win over another? If you enter your quilts in any type of competition, from county fair to international show, this topic is for you. All members of the guild are welcome to attend the NCQC meetings which are held at the Community Center, 1000 Kentucky Street, in Fairfield. I plan to go to this meeting; if others are interested in carpooling, let me know. For more information, check their website at www.ncqc.net. Carol Smith Member-at-Large

Block of the Month

No January block. Please bring in 5 or more 2 coordinating strips for Quiltique purse projects.

Tip of the Month

If you are going to be working on a block, pieced blocks, or row for a long time, you might think of stay stitching around the unit ( about 1/8 inch ). This helps to make the unit stable and prevents the raw edges from raveling.

NOTE: A roster will be emailed to you separately. This will be the last newsletter sent out to all previous members.

It was a great success with scrumptious tea sandwiches, desserts, and a variety of teas. Linnie F. won a pincushion; Marilyn R. won several embroidered tea towels; Diane H. won fat quarters; Barbara K. won a candle and Olivia L. won a quilting gift certificate. Check out the hats!
