Year 7 IT: Excel Battleship!

We are going to play the game Battleship to learn how to move around an Excel spreadsheet. To do this you need to know how to do a few things: Add fill to spreadsheet Add text to a spreadsheet 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Open Excel Create a game board on your screen this is where you will place your ships Highlight Row A1 through J 20 Turn on All borders Fill to a blue shade for the ocean Place your ships (change the colour to grey) note- you can only place ships vertically and horizontally not diagonally. Ship Aircraft Carrier Battleships Destroyers Cruiser Submarines Length 6 squares 5 squares (x2) 4 squares (x2) 3 squares (x2) 2 squares

Playing the Game 1) Two students play together; turn the monitors so you cannot see each others screens. 2) Decide who goes first. 3) That player calls out the column and row i.e. C5. 4) The opponent looks at their screen and answers hit or miss. (look at YOUR Computer monitor) 5) On the computer screen (NOT on the paper), change the colour of the cell and type marks an H (red) for hit, an M (yellow) for miss, if you get a hit you get a second guess. the player guessing should mark their printed out worksheet with their guesses 6) Now the opponent gets to call out a column and row. Keep track of your guesses.

The first player to sink all of the opponents ships is the winner.
