1.3.2.Operation
Aftereachenginestarttheautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisactive,regardlessofwhetherthe automaticenginestart-stopfunctionwasdeactivatedviatheenginestart-stopbuttonwhentheengine waslastswitchedoff. Theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisactivatedinvehicleswithmanualandautomatictransmissionsatroadspeedsof>5km/h(3mph).Inotherwords,theengineisonlyswitchedoffifthevehicle speedpriortovehiclestandstillwas>5km/h(3mph). 11

Establishingstart-upreadiness Ifthedriverwantstostarttheenginebutnotyetmoveoff,hecanestablishstart-upreadiness: Pressthebrakepedalbrieflyandwithmoreforce Releasethebrakepedalslightly.

Theenginestartsautomatically. AutomaticHold Ifthedriverhasactivatedthe"AutomaticHold"function,hecanalsoreleasethebrakepedaloncethe vehiclehascometoastandstill.Theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionalsoswitchestheengineoff inthiscase.ThevehicleisheldatastandstillbytheDSChydraulics.Theengineonlystartswhenthe driveroperatestheacceleratorpedal. Preventingautomaticengineshutdown Inordertobeabletodriveoffquickly,e.g.atacrossing,automaticengineshutdowncanbeprevented throughactiveinterventionwithinonesecondofthevehiclecomingtoastandstill.

Deactivator Ifadeactivationconditionexists,theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisdeactivated. Thefollowingscenariosarise,dependingonwhenthedeactivationconditionfortheautomaticengine start-stopfunctionoccurred: theenginecontinuesrunningandisnolongerstoppedautomatically theenginewasstoppedautomaticallyandstartsonceagainautomatically theenginewasstoppedautomaticallyandnolongerstartsautomatically(theCheckControl message"MSAoff"appears-thestart/stopbuttonmustbeoperatedinordertothestartthe engine).

Thefollowingdeactivatorsmayoccur: thedriver'sabsencehasbeendetected theenginedidnotstartwhentheignitionwasswitchedon theenginecompartmentlidisunlocked afaultrelatedtotheautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionhasbeendetectedattheengine, transmissionorcomponentsinvolvedintheautomaticenginestart-stopfunction thebuscommunicationisfaulty theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionhasbeendeactivatedviatheautomaticenginestartstopfunctionbutton theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionwasdeactivatedviathediagnosissystem thevehicleisintransportmode theenginewasswitchedoffonaccountofinsufficientenginerevs(invehicleswithmanual gearboxesanautomaticenginestartispossiblewiththegearengagedforthreeseconds).

Theindividualstatusescanbereadoutusingthediagnosissystem. Aneasy-to-followexampleofadeactivationwithsubsequentswitch-onrequest: theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisdeactivatedviatheautomaticenginestart-stop functionbuttonintheautomaticengineshutdownphase asaconsequence,theenginestartsautomatically afterthis,nofurtherautomaticengineshutdownsoccur,theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionremainsdeactivated.

1.3.4.Detectionofdriver'sabsence
Theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisdeactivatedwhenthedriverisabsenttopreventanautomaticenginestart. Thedriver'sabsenceisdetectedviatheseatbeltbuckleswitchandviathedoorcontact. Theautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionisalwaysreactivatedif: thedriver'sseatbeltisfastenedandthevehicleistravellingataspeedof>5km/h(3mph) thedriver'sdoorisclosedandthevehicleistravellingataspeedof>5km/h*.

Theprerequisitesfordeactivationoftheautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionvary,dependingon whichswitchingmodetheseatbeltbuckleswitchanddoorcontactareinwhentheautomaticengine start-stopfunctionisactivated: Statusduringactivationofautomaticenginestart-stopfunction Thedriver'sseatbeltisfastened. Thedriver'sdoorisclosed. Thedriver'sseatbeltisnotfastened. Thedriver'sdoorisclosed. Thedriver'sseatbeltisfastened. Thedriver'sdoorisopened. Thedriverunfastenstheseatbeltbuckle. Prerequisitesfordeactivationofautomatic enginestart-stopfunction Thedriverunfastenstheseatbeltbuckleand opensthedriver'sdoor. Thedriveropensthedriver'sdoor.

Aftertheautomaticenginestart-stopfunctionhasbeendeactivatedbythedetectionofthedriver's absence,itisreactivatedif: theseatbeltbuckleisfastenedand/orthedriver'sdoorisclosedandtheengineisstarted theseatbeltbuckleisfastenedand/orthedriver'sdoorisclosedandthevehicleistravellingat aspeedof>5km/h*(3mph).
