plant, water, carbon dioxide, energy from the sun, oxygen, sugar, a narrator (me), plants and animals. Narrate the process of photosynthesis. Begin with the sun sending energy to the plant. Have the energy, water and carbon dioxide circle around the plant, and then sit down. Have the sugars and oxygen dance around the plants and animals.

Open notes to the fiche #13 (Classification des feuilles) Tell students to pick out a simple leaf pattern from the first row, they will be using this leaf pattern for their project today. Create a photosynthesis model. The model begins as a single sheet of paper. Fold paper in half and cut out a large leaf shape (very little scrap should be left over, but dont toss it away. The two leaves are glued together from the petiole towards the tip). We will draw in veins and label the upper epidermis - la nervure principale). Fold the upper leaf back, so it stands up and away from the lower leaf. Draw the veins on the lower leaf (la ptiole, les nervures secondaires) I will show the students how to draw a cross-section that indicates the epidermis layer. Using some of the scraps, we cut and color a scalloped strip to represent the chloroplasts (les chloroplasts (nm). This gets glued to the upper leaf, along the inside, right at the fold. Finally, students will cut out 4 arrows, free-hand or stenciled, label each with the basic steps of photosynthesis, and glue them to the leaf. This is their practice activity for understanding photosynthesis. Their summative assessment will be their flip book reflection sentence, and one more representation of this process. Students will have a choice next week to perform a song, write me a paragraph, or designing a poster to represent the process of their learning of this concept. Extension/Cross curricular connection: Students will receive a copy of Freddy la feuille (in French class) they will be asked to make a comic strip explaining the process of photosynthesis. This connection will become one of the students written summative assignments for French class on Wednesday & Thursday.
