1. Introduction
This Method Statement covers the witnessing of Fire Damper drop test for all fire dampers within all ductwork systems throughout the development. A schedule will accompany this method statement detailing the dampers, the system they are located in and their physical location within the building.

2. Requirements Prior to Test

The requirement prior to this test is: a) Safe and clean access to the damper location (access is a requirement of the installation acceptance) b) Lubricate and clean the damper if deemed necessary. c) Relevant Risk Assessments, including the following risks (See Section 15 appendix for attachments): Hand held lamp/torch Hand Tools Ladders and Stepladders Working at heights

3. Design Parameters
The location of the fire damper is to be checked against the requirements of the design in respect of the rating and temperature setting of each damper to be tested.

4. Reference Documents/Drawings

5. Pre Start Checks/Pre-commissioning

a. Each damper is accessible and can be visually inspected to confirm operation. b. Operation of each damper to be confirmed prior to test/witness, and lubrication/adjustment needed to be carried out should be complete as part of this section. c. The size of access required for reset is to be established and agreed during installation.

6. Commissioning/Test Procedures
a) b) c) d) e) f) Check installation of Fire dampers as per approved shop drawing. Remove the access door on duct to access damper. Remove the fusible link and verify the damper fully closes properly. Re open the damper and re install fusible link. Lubricate and clean the damper if deemed necessary. Label the testing acceptance on fire damper.

7. Interface Procedure
Confirmation that the ductwork system, enclosing the damper is complete, fully pressure tested and insulated.

8. Documentation
Test sheets Shop drawing Manufacturers certification (temperature/time rating)

9. Demonstration and Witness Procedures

Dampers are to be offered for witness/demonstrated to the witnessing authority. This is prior to the offer of witness to civil defence. These tests will only be accepted once the regulatory authorities have given acceptance of operational suitability. The witness programme of the fire dampers is to be on a system/floor by floor basis. Details of all statutory demonstrations are also to be included.

10. Commissioning Flow Chart

The Contractor is to produce a flow chart based on the commissioning, interface and hand over processes in Sections 6.0 to 9.0. As required by the commissioning authority.
