Lesson Plan 2/1/ 2013 Class: British Literature I (3rd) Objectives: Students should be able to

Recognize and be able to identity kennings and other literary elements Have a general understanding of the Anglo Saxon code

Materials

Post its kenning exercises Dry erase board and markers Twitter access ( @mvbritlit :pw: englishthree ) anglo saxon code worksheet cookies/candy

Activities

Bell ringer (3 minutes) o Have definiton of kennings on the board and post its on desks o Have students come up with their own examples and put them on the board o Objective Go over Kennings with Twitter (7 minutes) o Tell students to take out their phones and go on Twitter o Send out a tweet saying what are your top five favorites! o Have students @ the mvbrit lit account o Project the twitter feed and see which the best were Anglo Saxon notes o Anglo Saxon Prezi o Project the Anglo Saxon notes o Have students briefly take notes on the subject Board Races o Split students into five groups of about 5-7 o They can use their notes to study, but when the student is up no notes o Each student comes to the board and ill say a question and they must write the answer. o Winner gets candy or extra credit (left over cookies and stuff) Exit Slip (if there is time) o Students write a kenning for beowulf, grendel, or hrothgar o Turn in for 2 points.

Formative assessment with board races to see if students are learning the material
