Reading Objective: Students will synthesize information from a variety of electronic sources, evaluating the credibility of each source. Writing Objective: Students will create an essay that serves as a biography and analysis of the Jim Crow Laws. Task This quarter, you will engage in a research project. This project will consist of two different components: You will research the Jim Crow Laws that swept America during 18771960s. Under the Jim Crow Laws, Whites were superior to African Americans in all ways. Strict laws were set on all aspects of African American life, including segregation. Students will write a biography and analysis of their research that explains important aspects of the Jim Crow Laws. Sources: Your paper should include AT LEAST 3 reputable sources. One of your sources MUST be in print (either a book, journal article, newspaper article, etc.) Wikipedia does NOT count as a reputable source! Each of these sources MUST be properly documented in the MLA (Modern Language Association) citation style and listed in a works cited page. Research Paper Outline Introduction: Historical background. Your essay should display a command of Standard English writing conventions (proper spelling, grammar, and sentence structure) and should be formatted according to the MLA style guide. There should be one inch margins around all sides of the page, with a header on each page consisting of your last name and the page number. Likewise, the paper should be double spaced throughout, and be entirely in one font (times new roman, size 12).
