1. Project Overview
Project Title: E-training environment for teachers (Bawabat Sahel).

Project Description: This project tends to design an E-training environment for all Omani school teachers. This online environment will make teacher training easy and continues. It will focus on modern teaching strategies and methods for integrating technology in teaching. This environment will be designed on a website and divided in three main sections: - Instructional Programs Section: This section has an integrative training programs for four instructional programs used in designing and presenting the learning content: Prezi Adobe Captivate CourseLab ActivInspire - Teaching Strategies Section: This section will train the teacher on four modern teaching strategies: Discovery learning Problem Solving Brain Storming Project-based learning - Technology integration Section: including: How to create Online Quiz and Online Survey Facebook, Twitter, and other technologies.

Project features: 1. First e-training environments for Omani teachers. 2. It support teacher self training.

3. It has an integrative training programs in three sections (Instructional programs, teaching strategies and integrating technology). 4. It has all the training topics in one place 5. It makes the teacher training process more easy and continues. 6. It offer training for all teachers anytime and anywhere.

Target Audience: This project seeks school teachers, in all Specialties. We will offer an Etraining environment for them which is more flexible, attractive and useful rather than traditional training thats already offered from the ministry. And that makes teacher professional development possible anytime and anywhere.

Why we chose this project: We know that teachers need a continues training in developing their skills and knowledge, and this constitute a major challenge for education systems around the world. In Oman, the Ministry of education offers various workshops for training, but all of them are provided in a traditional way. Because of that, teachers are having a hard time getting out of their classes during the school year to attend these traditional workshops. And this is our main reason to choose this project. We want to design a training environment for teachers and make all the workshops available online, so teachers can access to them anytime and anywhere, without major disruptions to the job of teaching. E-training, or online professional development, offers a various potential for teachers to stay in their classrooms while meeting the constant skills, improvement needs and inherent in the teaching profession.

2. Need assessment:
Used tools:
1. Observation: Training is very important in developing teacher's skills and knowledge. And because we observe that all workshops offered from the ministry are traditional and that does not meet teacher's needs any more. Teachers' need to access to their training anytime and anywhere without having to leave their lessons and students to have a workshop in a specific place. Also, it is better to have all the training topics in one place, so teachers can just be trained in the aspect they need, and that is the idea of our project: "teachers self training". 2. Questionnaire: We have conducted a questionnaire to investigate the need of etraining for Omani teachers. We make it online and communicate with MS. Shikha Al Hadhrami from the educational technology department in the ministry to provide us with teacher's emails and send the questionnaires to them. Also we print it and distribute it to teachers in some schools. We asked them if they prefer e-training over traditional training. Most teachers said that they need e-training because they will be able to have it anytime and anywhere even at home, also they prefer e-training because all the course materials will be available online. A summary of questionnaires results is provided below:

(Chart 1) Summary of Questionnaire Results

25 20 15 10 5 agree 0 neutral not agree

Chart 1 above displays a summary of the need assessment results of the project. It shows that the majority of respondents agree that there is a need for e-training environment for teachers. In the first statement about 83.3% agreed that they really need an e-training because they will not have to leave the school and go to the workshop place. In the fourth and eleventh statement most respondents said that they didnt have any etraining before either on teaching strategies nor in technology integration. About 50% of respondents agreed that time needed in etraining is less than traditional training; also in the fifth statement only 8.3% agreed that e-training leads to a complete understanding of a teaching strategy. And we assumed that they said so because they havent tried e-training before.

3. Interviews: We also interviewed some teachers to know if they have taken any online training before, they said that they havent take any online training courses before and they said that even traditional training is not available for all teachers.

Problem analysis:
Step (1): Summarize the actual and optimal situation Current Status: The Ministry of Education doesn't provide continues training for teachers. Most teachers that we have interviewed didnt take training for a long time. Also, we notice that there are no online courses provided by the ministry and all courses are traditional. Desired Status: Make training available online for all teachers anytime and anywhere. Step (2): Identify the gap and need Gap: No online courses are provided and no continuous training is provided for all teachers. Need: Teachers being able to get training anytime and anywhere.

(Chart 2) Identify the Gab and the Need

Step (3): Determine performance problems and causes 1. The Ministry does not provide continuous training for teachers. 2. The Ministry does not provide training for all teachers. 3. Teachers have to leave their classes during traditional training. 4. Traditional training needs more time and effort. Step (4): Determine solutions In order to fill the Gap and achieve the optimal situation, there are some suggested solutions: 1. The Ministry should provide continues training for all teachers.

2. E-training environment should be designed to make the training process easier and available anytime and anywhere. The Implemented Solution & reasons for adopting it: The best solution is to provide e-training environment for teachers. This e-training environment provides integrative training programs in different aspects that teachers need, so they will get trained and then they will given accredited certifications from the ministry. We choose this solution and this delivery method because of some reasons that will be presented using ACTIONS model: 1. Accessibility: all teachers can access to the website and get trained anytime and anywhere. 2. Costs: e-training costs are few comparing with traditional training. In traditional training, they will be costs for sitting the place with all the requirements, for gathering the teachers, printing the materials and providing trainees other needs. 3. Teaching and Learning: It enables teachers in all specialties to have the training they need online without having to leave their classes. 4. Interactivity and User-friendliness: Bawabat Sahel website is designed to be user-friendly. It is divided into three parts; teachers can choose the part they like to get training on. Each part is organized by a set of steps trainee should go through to complete the course. Also a clear instructions is provided to guide the trainee through the process. 5. Organizational Issues: the website can reduce the costs needed for teacher training.
9

6. Novelty: designing an e-training environment for teachers and make it accredited by the ministry is new in Oman. 7. Speed: because this training environment is delivered though a website, teachers can get training they need fast and easily.

10

3. Goal analysis:
The aim of e-training environment is to assists teachers at schools to acquire certain teaching skill through E-training environment. This will help them to make learning more fun and met learner's needs by using technology.

4. Performance Objectives:
After using E-training environments, teachers will be able to: Apply different modern teaching strategies Design content with different instructional program Integrate technology in teaching develop positive attitudes toward E-training environment

5. Learner Analysis:
Learner Characteristics: 1. Entering Behavior Audience: Description: Teachers should have basic knowledge and skills on using computer and internet, for example: -Computer operation skills. -How to browse on the web. -How to navigate though the website. -How to open the links. They may have to know what each section is referring to; otherwise they dont have to know about the courses contents because they will get training on them. Teachers should have positive attitudes toward E-training and trust the benefits they will get from it. Teachers are interested in Elearning because: -They can access to it anytime and anywhere -All training topics are at one place. -All training materials are available. -If the ministry agrees to adapt this project,

Context Analysis:
Environment

Description:
- Schools (Computer labs and Learning recourses centers) or Computers at homes. - We will contact the "Human Recourses Center at the Ministry and provide them with the website. - Instructions are provided for trainees at each step. - Ways of interactions are provided: Email, Facebook page and twitter account. - Any place with computer and internet connections. - Gender: Male and Female teachers. - Age: Different ages, new and old teachers. - Economic: Different economic levels. - Culture: All teachers are Omani; non Omani teachers can also use it. During this project, we have encounter some constrains: - We spend a lot of time in choosing a name for the website; we want it to be funky and different. Finally we chose "Bawabat Sahel". - Preparing a big amount of tutorials in a short period of time, we overcome this problem by organizing our time and try to finish everything on time. - We needed to use some photographs in the website, so first we took the photos but we didnt get the quality we desire so we took the photos again in "the Educational Technology Center" Photography department.

2. Summative Evaluation:
Workshop evaluation: We implemented our project in "Asilah bint Qais" School. We presented our website to a sample of teachers in different specialities. This implementation includes: pre-test, post-test and workshop evaluation. Pre-test: At first we give teachers a pre-test to measure teacher's prior knowledge about our project content. The chart below represents the results of the pre-test:
(Chart 4) Pre-test Results
7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0

This chart shows the result of the pre-test .This test includes two sections, the first section is about instructional programs and the second about instructional strategies. Each section includes two questions. The first question from programs section show that 50% answered correctly and 50% answered wrong. In the second question 50% answered correctly and
21

50% answered wrong. In the third question, most of teachers answered wrong about 66.6% .The last question all teachers answered wrong.

Post-test: Teachers start to use the website and explore its sections. Then, we give them a post-test. The chart below presents the results of the post-test.
(Chart 5) Post-test Results
7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0

This chart shows the result of post-test. The questions in the post-test are same with question in the pre-test because we want to measure the effectiveness of our E-training environment. In the first question, no one answered it wrong and all teachers did good job. In the second question, 50% answered correctly and 50% answered wrong.83% of teachers answered correctly in the third question and about 66% answered correctly in last question. In general, we observe that teachers did good job with online training.
