Deborah Park South Seattle Community College 6000 16th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98106 Dear Debbie, I am honored to be able

to make a statement of your professional promise as an aspiring student affairs practitioner and someone who I see is already making contributions to the field in a number of ways. Over the past couple of years we have come to know each other in a professional and academic capacity through our roles as students in Seattle Universitys graduate Student Affairs Administration program and as colleagues at South Seattle Community College. Through these endeavors I have had an opportunity to witness some of the unique contributions that you bring to your work in student affairs including your cultural competence, your strong sense of leadership, and your fluent communication skills. Additionally, your ability to successfully pursue challenging projects is a skill that I admire. Your cultural competence stems from an innate compassion that you have for students and coworkers. Perhaps this is a result of experiences you have had while teaching and traveling abroad. Regardless, I have seen you pursue assessment projects that have shed greater understanding on international students experiences at SSCC in a culturally responsive way. This has encouraged us to ask difficult questions, to strive to better meet the needs of our student population, and to work with heart. Your approach will serve you regardless of where you seek to exercise these skills. I also see your natural leadership ability as an asset to any organization that you would join. I believe your leadership stems from a clear understanding of your values. I see this demonstrated in your devotion to a student centered philosophy, a strong sense of integrity, creativity, and a sense of independence tempered by your ability to work effectively as a team member in pursuit of a common goal. The willingness you have exhibited to volunteer for new opportunities and to accept leadership roles at Seattle University and in professional organizations is an inspiration. Lastly, your communication skills shine not only in your interpersonal interactions with coworkers and students defined by your ability to listen deeply and reach a shared understanding but in your public presentation skills. One thing that I truly admire is the comfort and ease with which you express your ideas in a group setting. The knowledge of self that you have clearly garnered is conveyed as a sense of comfort within your own skin and an ability to remain at ease amidst the focus of a large group. Given your talent for communication and the veracity with which you pursue your professional practice and scholarship your peers will benefit as you continue to share your work in the future. Debbie, I look forward to hearing great things from you as you move forward in your career, and I wish you the best. Sincerely, Noah Overby
