Differential Amplifiers
Amplifier

Amplify input signal Reject noise signal Constant gain for wide frequency range

Most widely used building block in analogue

circuit design

Input stage of every Op-Amp is a differential amplifier

Lecture 01

Electronics II

Differential Amplifiers
Op-Amp is a

Differential Amplifier Output is dependant upon difference of input signals Differential Input makes the amplifier less Sensitive to noise

vn v1 vp A(vp - vn) v2

Common-mode rejection
Electronics II 5

Lecture 01

Differential Amplifiers
Performance

depends critically on the matching between the two sides of the circuit

vn v1 vp A(vp - vn) v2

Electronics II

Differential Amplifiers
Differential amplifiers utilize more

components (twice) Allows coupling of amplifier stages without the need for bypass and coupling capacitors

Coupling capacitors decrease the amplifier gain at low frequencies. Minimize losses in coupling and bypass capacitors
