Building blocks for all matter. 2) On the periodic table, What are the rows called? What do they all have in common? Periods, they always have something common if they are in the same row. 3) What is a shell? A shell is the area around the atom center. 4) What are the columns called? What do they all have in common? They are called a group. The columns in a group have the same number of electrons in their outer order. 5) What is an atom? They are pieces of matter that make elements. 6) What is a nucleus? The nucleus of an atom is the center of that one atom. The electrons orbit around the nucleus which begins to make a shell like we had a question for above.

7) Define Atomic Number : It is the number of an element that is put on to the periodic table. Also, it is equal to the number of protons within an atom. An example would be 8 for oxygen on the periodic table of elements. 8) Define Atomic Mass: Atomic mass is the total mass of one atom of a specific element. Its the mass of the protons, electrons and neutrons combined. Of all atoms, the mass of all atoms is based on the mass of carbon. 9) Choose any 6 elements and find the following information (referring only to the periodic table):
