Teall NHD 27 February 2013 I chose the Manhattan Project because I was inspired by my research of Joseph Stalin and his involvement in the Cold War during last years NHD. Due to my interest in fallout shelters and propaganda of the time the idea of researching the cause of these two things was very enticing to me. When I began research on it I found that it was very amazing achievement that required huge amounts of work, and created a respect for scientist like Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer. They created this device that when deployed could level an entire city to the ground. I started my research by finding websites regarding the topic in general. I then went on to find sources that would provide the most in depth analysis of the Project. One of the best sources for this objective would be The Manhattan Project: The Birth of the Atomic Bomb in the Words of its Creators, Eyewitnesses, and historians. Because it provided first- hand experiences of the people involved with the activities. I used the Truman Archives to find government documents that would aid in making connections between the accounts and the actual information that was made publicly known. I chose to do a website because I find that making a website is the easiest way for a person to present vast amounts of multimedia in a single format. To finish the website itself I had to find pictures, quotes, and audio that would best help tell the story of the Manhattan Project in its entirety. I wanted to use a format that would both emphasize the pictures and video, but would provide a background that wouldnt distract the viewer from the rest of the website itself. When deciding the background color and software are two very important considerations. Color has to match the topic, in my case I wouldnt want neon green I would rather have a theme color that is darker to reflect the mood of the subject. Software wise I didnt use any that I hadnt been introduced to last year when I was first made aware of the amusement that can be created when dealing with making a website. The only new thing I used this year was program that allowed for the cutting and editing of video and audio. My project is heavily a good fit for this years topic, turning points in history, in the fact that it created such a swift change in mindsets around the world. I think that the single point of this project of turning points was heavily emphasized in both research and execution of this website. Because of the drastic changes in culture, warfare, and the overall conduction of politics that occurred with the introduction of nuclear bombs would cause a lasting change that can even be seen today.
