ADAIR-CASEY FIVE-YEAR LIBRARY PLAN

The libraries have not had a regular budget for the last several years due to budget cuts, but a few new books can be ordered through the school. In the last few years, more money is usually available through the Adair-Casey Community Foundation and through small donations from various organizations. After an evaluation of the libraries was conducted, a plan was written to implement improvement. HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY CATEGORY Fiction 000 100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 900 NO. Although the 400 (language) and 800 (literature) sections have lower average copyrights, its more important to concentrate on the 300s (social science), 500s (pure science), 600s (applied science), and 700 (fine art) sections. Over the next five years, the following plan should be implemented: 2011-12 Concentrate on the 500 and 600 sections - Two requests (one in the fall and one in the spring) of $150 each will be made of the A-C Foundation to purchase approximately 30 newer books, using the School Library Journal and other sources for recommendations. Several older books in these sections will be weeded. Some new fiction books, including the Iowa Teen Award nominees and requests, will continue to be ordered through the school as money is available. 2012-13 Concentrate on the 300 and 700 sections - Two requests (one in the fall and one in the spring) of $150 each will be made of the A-C Foundation to purchase approximately 30 newer books, using the School Library Journal and other sources for recommendations. Library Plan 3 Although there is no regular budget for new books, the Adair-Casey PTO donates many new books to the elementary library through the Scholastic Book Fair. Most of the hardback books available through the book fair are fiction and easy, so its more difficult to improve the nonfiction areas. The A-C Foundation will be asked more consistently to help with the cost of books. To continue to update the science areas, the emphasis over the next five years will be on the 500 and 600 sections. 2011-12 Concentrate on the 500 and 600 sections - Two requests (one in late fall and one in late spring) of $100 each will be made of the A-C Foundation to purchase approximately 20 newer books, using the School Library Journal and other sources for recommendations. TECHNOLOGY: Currently, the elementary library has one computer station and a multimedia projector. For the 2011-12 school year, an interactive whiteboard will be added if technology money is available. Another computer will be relocated to the library. Because of the availability

Library Plan 4 of the mobile lab, more computers are probably not necessary. Discussions will be ongoing about adding Ipads in a couple years. These could contain books not already held by the library.
