The verb gustar • We use the verb gustar to express what
people like.
• If the thing being liked is singular, we use
gusta.
• If the thing being liked is plural, we use
gustan
To ask what someone likes
• To ask what someone likes, we use ¿Qué te
gusta
Conjugation
• This is the verb chart for gustar. It must be
memorized.

Me gusta= I like Nos gusta= we like
Te gusta= you like Os gusta = you all like
Le gusta= he likes Les gusta = they like
=she likes = you all like
Le and les are referring to who? =you like
=it likes
Notice that “le” can stand for you, he, she
or it likes.
• Notice that “les” can stand for you all like
or they like.
• In order to decipher who is doing the
liking, there is usually an “A name” put
Example in the sentence.
• A María le gusta la pizza.
• Maria likes the pizza.
• A Mario y A Juan les gustan las películas
To ask who is being talked about
• Mario and Juan like movies.
• ¿A quién le gusta la pizza?
• Who likes pizza?
Negative sentences • ¿A quiénes les gustan las películas?
• Who all likes movies?
• Put a “No” in front of the pronoun to
¿Por qué? Vs. porque make a sentence negative (ex. No me
gusta el libro.)
• To ask why use ¿por qué?
• To say because, use porque
