The Lord did not come into the world merely to make an improvement in our present conditions of life.

Neither did He come to put forward an economic or political system, or to teach a method of arriving at psychosomatic equilibrium. He came to conquer death and to bring us eternal life... (The Christian) is not one who by employing certain forms of abstinence or certain techniques has arrived at a high degree of self-control or at various ascetic exploits. All these things are only achievements belonging to his or her present world, unimportant in themselves, incapable of overcoming death... The true Christian is one raised up, sharing in the resurrection. His or her mission is not to effect something by thought, or to organise something by personal capacities, but by his or her life to go give witness to the conquest of death. "...He must increase, but I must decrease" (Jn 3:29-30). Adopt the life-style of the new world, the kingdom to come and receive a heavenly blessedness, the vision of God.
