LIFE JACKET

SOLAS requirements: (Ref. IMO LSA Code 2.2 Lifejackets) See regulation. First time on joining ship must check lifejacket complying with above requirement. Wear and tear of retro reflective material 4. Wear and tear of straps 5. Crack on fastening clips / buckle 6. Presence of neck strap 7. Approval of administration marked 8. Check markings Name of ship and weight of person allowed to use such jacket 9. Check light operation (if test facility available) and expiry date 10.Check whistle operation and cracks LIFEBUOYS

Lifebuoys should be so distributed so that they are readily available on both sides of the ship and as far as practicable on all open decks extending to the ships sides. Lifebuoys are stowed with a buoyant line or without ,sometimes with self igniting lights and sometimes without . ROUTINE CHECKS IN A LIFEBUOY: 1.The lifebuoy must be easy to take out from its stand immediately.care should be taken that it doesnt get jammed. 2.the retroreflector tapes must be checked and maintained in good condition. 3.if a lifeline is attached the rope must be taken care of and must be checked frequently.

4.if self igniting lights are attached they must be frequently monitored and changed after the date of expiry.
