Flame Tests

Aim: to find out what colour flame eight different known metal solutions make, then
using the results to figure out which metals are in five unknown samples.

Equipment List:
Flame test wire/rod Water Bunsen burner Barium nitrate Calcium nitrate Strontium nitrate Copper sulphate Lead nitrate Potassium nitrate Sodium nitrate Iron nitrate Lithium carbonate

Method:
1. The flame test wire was held in the flame to make sure it was clean. 2. The metal loop was dipped into the first solution then held in the flame. 3. Observations were recorded. 4. The wire was rinsed in water and held in the flame again to make sure it was clean. 5. Steps 2-4 were repeated for each solution.
